Great motherboard, support not so great!
Pros: Has everything you could possibly want, although you have to be careful because using one feature may disable another.
Cons: Everything was going great until I installed the latest BIOS update. The computer rebooted and never posted. A brick. I tried the BIOS flashback to return to the previous BIOS but nothing. After wrestling with this for a full day this morning I tried something. Even though ASUS says it only applies to overclock failures. I pressed the CLR CMOS button. The system rebooted into setup (of course all my settings were gone) and I saw that I was running on the previous BIOS. Flashback had worked but not cleared the BIOS. So just to see if it was ASUS or me I upgraded the BIOS again. The computer froze up again, but of course this time I hit CLR CMOS and rebooted successfully. I re-entered all my settings from the crib sheet I made when I built the system and rebooted. The boot failed because it could not find the RAID array I originally created using 2 M.2 memory sticks. But then I remember that when you create a RAID you have to restart to activate it, so I just booted again and the system came up great. All the data on the RAID was good, no restore necessary.
Overall Review: The BIOS I was upgrading to was PRIME-X299-DELUXE-ASUS-1503.CAP. I am astounded that ASUS support has left that out there, but then again I should not be surprised since they have deleted their VIP Support Web Site. So even reporting a problem is a problem. I hope the paragraph above helps at least one person.
Great Performance
Pros: Always great performance from Western Digital Black drives, and a great warranty too.
Cons: No cons.
Overall Review: I don't use anything but WD black.
Great case
Pros: Hard to find a problem with this case, but do a thorough inspection when you get it delivered. I have noticed some people complain that the top or the front panel comes loose. When I inspected my case I found that UPS had dropped it off a conveyor belt or something because the styrofoam padding at the end of the box was broken. On further inspection I found a lot of plastic mounting studs were sheared off and the case was a little deformed. Thermaltake sent me new top and front panels and I was able to fix the rest myself. But as soon as you get the case remove the top and front panels and check everything.
Cons: As others have mentioned I wish the USB 2.0 ports were removable so I could replace them with 3.0 ports.
Overall Review: This is the second one I have purchased. I use water cooling and the unit is quiet as a (small) mouse.
Great case
Pros: Even has little feet that stick on the bottom.
Cons: None
Overall Review: Fits perfectly. Just make sure you get the model that is for your specific PI.
Fast delivery
These were just plain ol Micro SD cards so they went US Mail. When I ordered them the estimate I received for delivery was something like 10 days. This was not a life or death deal so I just put them out of my mind. So I was really surprised when they showed up 3 days later. So I guess it's better to under-promise and over-deliver than the other way around.
