Pros: I'm Development Engineer. EE, I've worked on network products including commercial GB switch components to a backbone.. This switch is inexpensive, quick, handles jumbo packets, sufficient ports. Also low power consumption, fanless, silent. It sits on a horizontal surface in an office; just measured the case hotspot at 84.1F in a 68.8F office (~1yr of continuous service)[28.9C, 20.4C], so it runs cool. Works as expected.
Cons: Lightweight, so cables can easily knock it over.
Overall Review: One review states one slow connection drops entire switch speed. THIS IS WRONG ! I have always been able to achieve Gigabit performance between Gbit systems thru this switch, while it's connected to slower interfaces. I've tested w/ ttcp and other benchmarks. I've also observed GB traffic w/ an analyzer while another port has negotiated 100mb.
Great product & price
Pros: After config it's got that "just works" quality. Great product, great price, excellent support at obitalk forum. Works perfectly with NO PC involved. Plug your phones in one jack, your network in the other (optional land-line in the third), configure and live happy. There is optional 'obiapp' so you can dial-thru your home obihai from a PC while traveling.. You can take an obihai on an extended trip, or forward your calls - do most anything you want. Brilliant for this price.
Cons: Not an Obihai problem, but googlevoice has changed several times requiring a firmware update. Trivial to do (go to ObiTalk web account and click a button).
Overall Review: Tho' Obihai works with googlevoice (free call in US+Canada for 2012), but it also works with any VOIP provider (typically $5-$9USD/month, plus E911 available). Voice quality better than standard landlines. Can send FAX with prefix codes for right codec. Beats the snot out of ooma and magicjack.
Pros: Excellent price ($187 10/10), Excellent performance. Does NOT slowdown on usage if your OS supports TRIM. Power consumption and heat are very low (est 1-1.5 watt active) and measurably (battery drain numbers) lower than a Seagate Momentus 2.5"/500G. I'm using on a Lenovo/T510/Linux with ZERO problems, extensive use, great for battery life. My Lenovo and other new BIOS's support the hardware SATA (Sandforce) drive encryption.scheme.AES-128 at full speed, no software.
Cons: Needed to upgrade SSD Firmware and the FW tool completes then causes a blue-screen. Frightening, but it works OK. I'll be kicking myself next halloween when they'll be half the price.
Overall Review: Before buying any SSD - study the controllers CAREFULLY. for both speed and error correction capabilities. Sandforce-1200 with enough chip parallelism can run near SATA-II limits, has 23bit/512B error correction. Linux supports TRIM, in recent file systems and 2.6.33 or later. Use modern file systems (ext4,btrfs, ...) mounted with the "discard" option. Swap automatically uses TRIM. Read up.
Pros: Fastish: # hdparm -tT /dev/sda /dev/sda: Timing cached reads: 6368 MB in 2.00 seconds = 3184.62 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 592 MB in 3.00 seconds = 197.14 MB/sec
Cons: I had to upgrade firmware from 2.10 to 3.10, which involved installing Win7 (ugh). The Firmware upgrade tool caused Win7 to crash & reboot before completion (2x attempts). SMART technology parameters were wrong before the firmware upgrade.
Overall Review: Still a good drive and I'm happy with the purchase.. G.Skill makes good product, but the firmware upgrade was nasty software - needs work..
Pros: Really works ! I have directv and installed a converter in the basement and use the remote from the far-end 2nd floor of a big house w/o problems, 80+ft away. Has that "just works" feature we all want. No programming.
Cons: Micro-nits: Battery w/ RF rattles in the remote slightly. Seems like there is a slight delay in transmitting commands. Would be nice to have a separate recharger for the 2/3 size batteries.
Pros: NO Dead Pixels. Great resolution, crisp display. Excellent color reproduction.
Cons: Setup requires a little work.
Overall Review: When using HDMI from a PC it's necessary to set "PC/AV Mode" to PC and also to set "HDMI Black Level" to 'Normal'. Many other settings available. Measures 17 Watt with the Eco 50%mode. 0.3Watt in standby.
