Compact ST50F-P Is an Excellent SFF Solution

Pros: - Fits SFF cases well. The reduced 140 mm depth leaves sufficient space to comfortably make and route cable connections. - Modular design provides more opens pace after connections and improves air flow. - Manual provides necessary instructions and installation details.
Cons: - Quiet 120mm fan is less quiet than expected. - Optional shorter cable (PP05) set should be available at no extra charge in a SFF Strider Plus package.
Overall Review: Bought the Silverstone ST50F-P Strider Plus to replace the original PS that failed after 4 years in my Silverstone SG01 case. In addition, the optional PP05 short cable set was purchased. Installation was easy, and the short cables alleviated the cramped, crowded space that is typical of cable bundles in non-modular designs, as well as long cables in modular packages. The result is significant increase in open space and ventilation. With the old power supply, the case was always hot. Now the case is quite cool. The reason for not giving the Strider Plus 5 eggs is the fan is a little noisier than expected. In summary, the Strider Plus is a very satisfactory purchase, providing an improved operating environment over the original PS in my SFF case.
No reason to be confident in product

Pros: Solid aluminum enclosure, stable base. Very quiet.
Cons: - No Quick Start card included. - Default format is FAT 32. Used the EX Gig II software that Apricorn provided to back up 179 GB on my drive in about 2 1/2 hours. Afterward, I saw all the files were saved in several folders named slices. At that point I realized the drive was not formatted ntfs. Checked the manual, and silly me the default format is FAT 32 (for Windows 98 and 95 users). If NTFS format is desired (Windows 2000, XP, and Vista), the drive has to be reformatted. Info like this should be in bold print on a Quick Start or Setup flyer. - Customer support is slow. - Like the other user pointed out, the rubber covers look poorly designed.
Overall Review: Out of the box, the drive didn't work properly. The light on the front was not working. Called tech support 4 times. Nobody answered! Not even a sound or a greeting. Left two messages with no return calls received. Finally, after 4 days I used the chat service at the Apricorn website, asking why service was so nonresponsive. The on-line chat representative took my phone number and told me somebody would call before the close of business. A tech rep did call. Wouldn't replace the drive, and said the power supply was likely defective. Sent a new power supply, which I received 5 days later. Reloaded software and installed drive. The red light on the front of the drive now working properly. After reformatting drive (see above), it only took two weeks to get up and running properly. At this point, I don't have a lot of confidence the product is going to provide reliable service for the next 2-4 years.
Easy Connection

Pros: - Easy Setup - Quick Connection - Good Range - Small and convenient to use
Cons: None
Overall Review: I have had trouble with other wireless products connecting to my broadband network on the other side of the house. The Hawking works flawlessly and usually connects at 90% signal strength or better. Very happy with the product.
