From opteron to X2

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ - Athlon 64 X2 Windsor Dual-Core 2.8 GHz Socket AM2 89W Processor - ADA5600CZBOX
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ - Athlon 64 X2 Windsor Dual-Core 2.8 GHz Socket AM2 89W Processor - ADA5600CZBOX

Pros: Great CPU, really fast. Getting this performance level of CPU for this kind of price(well under 200) is nothing short of a miracle. C2D's have faster but are WAY more expensive, and arent even that much faster. I put this in to replace my opteron 1212 and there is a very noticable difference. The opteron was fine but i wanna build an at home server with it.

Cons: not a QX6850.

Overall Review: Tyan S2925G2NR, 4 gigs Corsair 675mhz ram 44412, EVGA GeForce 7900 GS, WD 80 gig sata/7200 rpm syste, WD 120 7200 IDE data.

Great Board

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: This board is very nice. It works. It allowed me to overclock a Q9550 to 3.83Ghz on air cooling. Id have to say thats pretty good. My computer is running fast and stable. This board is the basis of all of that. Just buy it, you wont regret it. The price is amazing for what you are getting.

Cons: Raid 0 is a pain to set up. It always is. Ive done it plenty of times and it never works out the first try. Not the boards fault, just my bad luck.

Overall Review: Q9550 OC 3.83 Ghz, 4GB ddr2 1066, BFG 9800 GTX+ 1GB, 4x WD 800JD 7200rpm raid 0, CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V, creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer

FAST

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 - Core 2 Quad Yorkfield Quad-Core 2.83 GHz LGA 775 95W Desktop Processor - BX80569Q9550

Pros: This cpu is a HUGE step up from my AMD athlon 64 X2 5600+ 2.8 Ghz. WOW. Stock speeds are more than enough for anything i could throw at it. However, i still had to overclock.....i just had to. It is at 3.83 Ghz stable and cool enough on air cooling. Mine is C1 stepping so i consider that quite an accomplishment. Artic Cooling Freezer 7 pro keeps it at 25 degrees Celsius idle and 55 degrees Celsius full load with prime95. This thing running at 3.83 Ghz is just ridiculous.

Cons: Stock cooler was useless. 40 degrees celsius at idle in a very good case is just not going to cut it. i got ride of that hunk of garbage asap and put in an Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. MUCH better now.

Mid range performance

EVGA GeForce 9800 GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Graphics Card 512-P3-N973-TR
EVGA GeForce 9800 GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Graphics Card 512-P3-N973-TR

Pros: This is a really solid card for mid range users. It is energy efficient and powerful enough to run most modern games at or near maxed out at 1440 x 900 resolution. Ran cool and with no problems until i recently sold it to get a 9800 GTX+ with 1 GB on board. the GTX+ stomps it but this card is good for moderate users or those folks on a very tight budget.

Cons: not the biggest and baddest

Great for Electrical Engineering

Texas Instruments Voyage 200 Calculator
Texas Instruments Voyage 200 Calculator

Pros: This is about as good as it gets as far as Engineering and Science calculators. I dont like casios or hp's so staying with TI is important to me. This calculator is a dream to program on and has an amazing layout and interface for doing complicated stuff.

Cons: none

Overall Review: big step up from my old 83 plus

CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-750TX 750 W ATX12V v2.3 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Compatible with New 4th Gen CPU Certified Haswell Ready

Pros: This is a straight forward power supply. It has more than enough connections and has plenty of power to run a lot. Nothing really fancy, it just works and i like that.

Cons: it is only semi modular cabling and there is a lot of cable to hide.
