Goodbye nVidia Quadro, Hello ATI Eyefinity5
Pros: I have built over 300 computers from scratch. I am a quad-display guy and have been for the last 6 years. I have gone through every under/sad-performing Matrox card there is and most recently the always-buggy Quadro PNY NVS-450 that sorely tested my patience with 3 or 4 boots every morning just to get it to work properly. If your monitors are DVI/VGA then you will only be able to run two with the 2 included DVI adapters. The other 3 monitors will need from Newegg the Sapphire ACTIVE DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter (max 1920x1200) for $25 ea or a full ACTIVE DisplayPort-to-DVI adapter for $125 ea. I am using the $25 Sapphire units and I am in heaven. THIS card is pure joy to you quad-display geeks who have waited years for multi-display perfection to arrive... along with superfast GDDR5 memory. Win7 64 bit Media Center movies play without pause and clear as a bell even whilst you have 8 other windows open.
Cons: I was upset that I had to spend two hours researching passive versus active displayport adapters to figure out what additional hardware I had to buy to see all 4 of my monitors fire-up and work. There were no buyer feedback recommendations/critiques/hints on this page when I bought my card. Remember, you will only see all five monitors light up if all 5 are DisplayPort models. If all you have are DVI monitors then you need to buy three ACTIVE DisplayPort-to-DVI adapters for $125 ea. If your five monitors are combo DVI/VGA then you also need to buy 3 Sapphire ACTIVE DisplayPort-to-VGA adapters (max 1920x1200 each monitor) for $25 ea.
Overall Review: This ATI card is a very good deal and performs in my Gigabyte EP45-UD3LR system with 4gb memory very well. I have a 2.83 Q9550 cranked up to run at 3.11 ghz. I have set my ATI card to run locked at 100 mhz in the MB bios which now eliminates all flicker. I have also added a nice VIZO VIZO-PCL-201 70mm Blue LED Propeller Dual Fan Card next to my ATI card. I am running Catalyst 10.6 but not Hydravision software as yet. My CCC manual set fan speed on the ATI card is 65%. The CCC overdrive speed is 810 mhz for the GPU clock and 1200 mhz for the memory clock as established by the auto-tune set-up. Overall, if you take my advice the set-up of this card will be a snap. ATI has indeed become the graphics card choice of 2010 for me. I will buy more of these cards for sure.
Avoid the SP online registration and SP downloads at all costs
Pros: Thin, well-constructed, nice press-fit brass screw receivers, works good for $50. Seq Read 428MB/s, Seq Write 143MB/s, 4K Random Read 7MB/s, 4K Random Write 5.24MB/s. Used Acronis to clone this SSD off my existing WD hard drive with no problem.
Cons: To prevent pulling your hair out by the roots I suggest completely ignoring the SP online warranty registration process. SP's over-designed webpage for simply entering your birthday (to prove your ID later) will drive you totally nuts after 15 minutes of trying to get it to work, it like trying to play the whack-a-mole game online. And whatever you do completely forget about downloading SP's chintzy 2-time-use NTI cloning software. You will never get it to work on your machine, NTI will never accept your SP SSD serial number to unlock its over rated prima donna software. It is amazing to me that SP still in this modern day & age requires its customers to jump through their backside booty for a half-hour just to register a little toy $50 SSD... they're still living in 2007, not 2017... no one wants to go through such painful registration/downloading online anyone just to get my email address for their future spamming.
Overall Review: Ahhhh, it's OK. I got it cheap on sale so I am happy, but I wouldn't pay full retail if I needed another SSD especially after i just lost a half of my life trying to simply register the warranty and download their crummy software from the OEM SP site. And, their SP firmware updating software won't even recognize this drive... geez.
WatchDog, you are my new Number 1 Dog
Pros: Ever since nasty malware was first invented so many years ago, I have bought my anti-malware protection (and renewals) through NewEgg... I bought the software in the blue box for what seems like the last 10 years (or maybe it's been 20 years) and have been quite satisfied with it. When my renewal came up this year I was shopping NewEgg and came across this WatchDog guy... I liked the name so I bought a 1 year 3 machines box/download for a "look see" test. I had some trouble initially installing it on my Windows 7 64-bit machine so I wrote to the Dog in Customer Service late one evening. The next morning Mr Top Dog himself was sending me an email from WatchDog headquarters in Canada with detailed instructions on how to get this software installed on my first three Windows 7 64-bit machines (I have 10 of 'em). Within 15 minutes Mr top Dog had me up and running perfectly. On my first scan the WatchDog software found 2 problems my old anti-malware never reported to me as dangerous which needless to say got my attention. The interface on WatchDog is amazingly simple and completely intuitive... plus it runs in the background with zero input from me and with nearly zero additional overhead on my CPU. I bought the first package on a Sunday. I bought a second and third package on Thursday (for 6 of my other 7 machines) after convincing myself this anti-malware is the "real deal" and works exceptionally well. Plus their customer service is clearly top notch and fast.
Overall Review: I will definitely recommend this software. These Dogs have crafted a fine piece of anti-malware protection which doesn't interfere with the built-in Microsoft protection or any of my other anti-virus software... and that is important to me.
I am a believer now, this RAM is indeed made for Ryzen
Pros: I will admit that I thought the advertising promo saying this SDRAM was made for the AMD platform was a gimmick... I was wrong. This SDRAM is indeed made for the AMD Ryzen platform and performs amazingly. On my Gigabyte B450M motherboard I am using a 3900X CPU for Windows 7 64 bit. Originally I was using CORSAIR Vengeance 64gb sticks but felt I was not getting the best performance available with occasional freezes. This new Geil Orion memory has a Ryzen logo embossed on the side you don't see in the pictures and it is there for a reason... because this is definitely Ryzen "matched" memory . In the morning I always open a Firefox window with 11 favorite bookmarks/tabs. In the past I rarely got all 11 tabs to open and usually had to manually reopen/re-jigger between 2-6 tabs because my system had choked (which I subsequently discovered was definitely caused by the old memory sticks confirmed after upgrading to this Orion SDRAM). Now (after installing this Orion RAM) I open my morning Firefox window and all 11 tabs load instantly and perfectly... no hiccups, lag or CPU overloads/misfires. Mechanically everything on the display is snappier and quicker. The XMP memory profile at 1.35volt works immediately and with no unusual settings. I admit I originally bought this Geil memory (64gb) because the price was so spectacularly low during some crazy NewEgg sale and I really didn't believe this memory was designed for Ryzen CPUs but I am a believer now. I don't have the specifics and i don't know how they do it but I am now convinced this Geil Orion RAM is indeed made for the AMD platform. This SDRAM unleashes the maximum performance from my 3900X CPU.
Cons: There are no cons.
Overall Review: Shipping was fast, packaging was good and the RAM is perfect for me.
I am a believer now
Pros: These leg massager wraps do indeed work quite well. The fabric is heavy duty and constructed very good. I have mild high blood pressure and the beginning of poor blood circulation in my legs which bring on ankle swelling and leg muscle aches. I am 6' tall and 260lbs so I was concerned these leggings wouldn't fit me well but I was pleasantly surprised to see that they fit near perfectly, the knee socket misses perfect alignment by 2 inches but no big deal since there are no mechanical functions in the knee segment/shell. I have definitely seen an improvement in my legs, swelling has gone done and I feel more energy in my legs. I use my massager every night for 3 or 4 reps while sitting in my recliner with the footrest in the up position. I basically go as tight as possible on the Velcro straps and set the pump to 80% throttle. Yes, getting yourself strapped into these leggings is a chore... but it is worth it.
Cons: I would request a bit more protective fluffy cushion for the slope area on my leg as it joins the foot immediately in front of the ankle. At full compression this part of my leg hurts. At present I stuff one of the extra "extension" pads (which came in the bag for use by super fat people) into this area of the massager and it helps a lot to reduce the localized cutting pressure from the Velcro flap inflicted at this pressure point.
Overall Review: Yes I would recommend this massager. It is well designed and appears quite durable. The hand control which contains the air pump is super tough and looks like it would be impossible to break.
I am a big rugged Neandrathal. This monitor stand is made for us... finally
Pros: I am so sick of those other brand tinny wussy monitor stands that can barely hold 18 pounds and still sag. This Vivo stand holds my 32 inch 22 pound ACER monitor rock solid and it stays right where I put it... when I let go of the monitor it doesn't sag 3 inches, it doesn't sag 2 inches, it doesn't even sag 1/4 of an inch. You position the monitor on this beast once and it stays rock solid right in that place. As soon as you pick this arm up after it is delivered to your house and touch it you will know it is a high quality well-machined piece of hardware. The base plate which sits on top of the desk is heavy duty aluminum. I don't like bolting C-clamps to my desk edge which does not have much of a lip to clamp on to so I drilled out (ie drilled through) the 4 threaded holes in the aluminum base plate and simply ran four 2" wood crews through the base plate and down into my oak desk to anchor the arm, my modification worked perfect.
Cons: No cons.
Overall Review: I ordered this monitor arm on Sunday using free shipping. I had it on Wednesday. This Vivo unit is the new standard for making strong single arm monitor stands especially well-suited for all Neanderthal men... like me.
I wish all the sellers were this good
The first item in my last order with these guys was a USB cable which arrived in 3 days using free overseas mail service. Seller is quite "talky" and gives me updates to my email box on delivery changes/status for the 2nd item in my order.
