Best Upgrade For A Laptop

OCZ Vertex Series 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSD2-1VTX120G
OCZ Vertex Series 2.5" 120GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) OCZSSD2-1VTX120G

Pros: I plugged this drive on my current laptop which is a Dell 1720 inspiron using a SATA I ICH8M controller (Bios A09). The speeds cap at 60-70MB/s (write) and 130-140MB/s (no new firmware installed yet) which is a huge performance gain from the 5400 RPM drive. Bootup is amazingly fast and no more waiting for the HD drive to finish loading files after windows has loaded. Applications are more snappier.

Cons: The Os tweaks are required for windows and can be confusing depending on how you intend to use the drive. The technology is also new so I cannot say Im 100% sure about the reliability. Had a weird bug where both drives disappeared on a restart. Drive life expectancy is still uncertain. If this drive lasts more than 3 years then it is worth the investment.

Overall Review: If you can have 2 hard drives then I would suggest going hybrid. Have the SSD as the OS drive and have data saved or written on the traditional HDD.

Terrible Prints

brother HL-4070CDW Color Laser Printer with Wireless Networking & Duplex

Pros: The printer has wireless connectivity and setting it up was a breeze.

Cons: The print quality is terrible. I played around with the color settings and could not get vivid prints out of the printer. The colors always looked or appeared like medium or normal quality prints from an inkjet printer. The price is too high for the type of print this printer delivers.

Kensington Ci73 K64397US Black 103 Normal Keys 5 Function Keys USB Wired Slim Keyboard
Kensington Ci73 K64397US Black 103 Normal Keys 5 Function Keys USB Wired Slim Keyboard

Pros: The keyboard feels like a laptop keyboard which was the primary reason for the purchase. I have a laptop desktop mode configuration where my laptop is plugged to a 24" monitor and keyboard and the laptop is sitting under my desk on a printer cart. The goal was to keep my desk clean and have only the monitor, keyboard and mouse on the desk. It is sleek but the upper part of the keyboard is a bit too bulky. Overall it has a low profile that compliments my 24" monitor which makes it appear bigger.

Cons: The "mac" button is annoying. I still hit it by mistake and hitting the key in combination with enter sends my laptop to screen lock mode (I use the key combination alt + enter for Photoshop a lot).

Okidata C5500n Workgroup Up to 24 ppm Color Ethernet (RJ-45) / USB LED Printer

Pros: We've had this printer for about a year and it does good quality and vivid prints in both color and black.

Cons: The paper loading mechanism failed after a year. We were not sure if it was a sensor issue but it kept reporting that the front cover was open and prevented the paper from feeding properly which in turn will end up as a paper jam.

Overall Review: Would be nice if it had wireless connectivity.
