Good Stuff
Pros: Does what it says. Nice and zippy straight out of the box. Upped the voltage to 2.2 and things got zippier.
Cons: None
Overall Review: I wish I could fly.
Newegg Cust Svc. Saves Day
Pros: Newegg Customer Service made a bad situation good. Ordered a refurbished router that was DOA. Netgear didn't want anything to do with me (even though their warranty card came with the device). Newegg sent me a replacement, no questions asked.
Cons: Netgear customer service. I'll never buy another netgear product again just because of the customer service experience I had with them. Their system is DESIGNED to not connect you to ANYONE if you have problems. Absolutely terrible.
Overall Review: In hindsight, I'm probably going to stop buying refurbished stuff...DOA refurbs have happened to me twice now, and you're not really saving that much money - especially considering the headache of getting the bad product replaced. I first started using newegg b/c of the great prices. But now, even when they're not the cheapest, I still use them b/c of their awesome customer service. If it wasn't for the cust. svc dept. @ newegg, this whole thing would have been an act of extreme frustration that resulted in me taking it out on the chick in the cubicle next to me...then there's the crying...then the referral....then the drinking... Thanks for not making my coworkers mad at me Newegg!
price is good, performance is avg
Pros: Does what it says it will do and does it well. Over the last 3 years mine has been through 2 motherboards and burned well over 500 discs. Never had any write errors b/c of the hardware. For this price you can't really get an all around better drive. Maybe you can get quieter or quicker, but you can't get both.
Cons: A little loud. After 3 years of moderate to heavy use the drive tray motor has failed...not a big con really.
Overall Review: Looking forward to buying the SATA version.
Can't be beat
Pros: Popped it in, tweaked my setup to get it up to recommended voltage. Works great!
Cons: Heat spreaders a little thick and make for rather tight clearances.
Overall Review: Having four sticks of RAM next to each other, all of which came with heat spreaders, makes me wonder if the heat spreaders aren't being counter productive to their intent (i.e. with all these spreaders, all the RAM is nearly touching now)...probably something motherboard people should fix though.
Fantastic for the $$
Comments: This thing is fast, works well, and was a breeze to install. It includes a beige face plate too, if you're ocd about that kinda thing. Makes some noise, but nothing serious....who burns dvd's in secret anyway.... maybe ninjas.... but I'm not a ninja...yet.
Shweet!
Comments: Got here fast, good price, blah blah blah. Here's how little I know: apparently you have to move these little plugs around on the back of the drive to tell your computer whether the drive is a slave or master or cable something or other. I had to play with that a little. Otherwise, the only plug that will fit in the hole is the one that goes there. I think the little plastic plugs are there just so we can't teach monkeys to do this (I had to use my opposible thumb....glad I have one)
