Most Favorable Review

Excellent mix of features

Intel BOXD975XBXLKR LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel BOXD975XBXLKR LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: A good combination of features, most recent chipset, nominal support of future CPU generations. Great SATA support (8 drives) Ought to be 5 eggs, except for:

Cons: Newegg is still shipping the 302 rev, which dates from Jan 06. It's too old to recognize either the 955 or 965 CPU's without BIOS update. And will not support Conroe CPU's. Also has core voltage selection issue with some 965 CPU's.

Overall Review: Intel Motherboard support ($25 a pop, usually) identified the 965 compatibility issue and provided a workaround to enable operation.

Most Critical Review

The last and greatest Netburst CPU

Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 965 - Pentium Extreme Edition Presler Dual-Core 3.73 GHz LGA 775 Processor - BX80553965
Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 965 - Pentium Extreme Edition Presler Dual-Core 3.73 GHz LGA 775 Processor - BX80553965

Pros: Currently the fastest Intel CPU

Cons: Expensive, the box Intel fan/heatsink is inadequate under any conditions. 63C windows idle, 83C under load in very well vented chassis. Some units incompatible with D975xbx MB. Wait for Conroe.

Overall Review: Intel processor support is worth what you pay for it. Which is to say nothing. Mother board support people were able to provide work around for compatibility issue.
