UPDATE! and a *WARNING*!!!!
Pros: As I previously stated I had one of my two 5830's come defective. I RMA'd it to Newegg and had a new one back in exactly a week. Big props to Newegg on their timely and great customer service! As the quality and performance goes with these cards I have to give them the full 5 eggs this time :) You cant blame any manufacture for the occasional lemon. Im running COD: WAW and BC2 at 1920x1200 resolution with a steady 100 to 120 fps in Xfire. A steady 50 to 60 fps with one card running. This makes me very happy :)
Cons: Now for the !*WARNING*! Im not going to blame the cards for this so no loss of eggs. As stated by another post, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT install "Gamer OSD" on your computer! The first problem is that it does not work! But the real problem is that you will enter driver "HE double sticks"!!!!! After installing this I could not get it to work, no big deal right? WRONG! Even with this feature turned off my games would run at 20 FPS and crash after about two minutes in game. I thought it was a driver issue of course. So I went on a six hour journey trying to find the right Driver/ Catalyst combo that would fix the problem. No chance, it only got worse! So I tried going back and uninstalling everything to start over from scratch only to find you can not Uninstall Gamer OSD. It took me hours running in Safe mode searching my computer to manually delete every file of this garbage:( I finally got it removed and installed just the drivers from the disk that came with the card. It works perfect!
Overall Review: Who ever put Gamer OSD in the disc bundle should be fired. Note to ASUS, next time you want to entice us to buy your product with cool features like Gamer OSD for free. Please make sure the program actually works first! Thank you :) Running WIN7 X64 incase you were wondering.
If I would have known? READ CAREFULLY
Pros: It looks absolutely sick on the front of my Thermallake case. I'm using the Red front bezel with all red LED fans to match. Adds a very nice professional looking touch to my case. They also give you two extra temp sensors (good thing since mine came out of the box with a bad one) and two fan control wire extenders for your long distant runs to the back of the case.
Cons: Now for the bad news!!! It came with a bad number 3 temp sensor. Although they did account for this problem by giving you a couple spare sensors just in case. But It should be working out of the box when it's brand new! Quality control....Just saying!!! The real disappointing part is the fact that no where in the description does it tell you that you are required to have three wire fans for it to read and control RPM's. Also my case came with molex connectors on the fans and this has three pin plugs for each fan. There are no adapters included for this??? The instruction manual is pretty weak as well! I have four out of five fans flashing 0000 RPM with no way to turn this option off? Now I have to buy four more fans with 3 wire control :( Newegg needs a much better description of this product so buyers know what they are getting. Or more importantly what the need to buy for the product to function as intended!
Overall Review: For this price they should give you the adapters you need to connect to either type of fan connector plug you may need. I had to do a bunch of searching to find an adapter because the fan plugs are male so you need 3 pin female to 4 pin molex adapters. VERY HARD TO FIND!!! And more money spent! Why no mention of needing to have a 3 wire fans either???? I ordered extra fans for my case and installed them while I was waiting for my adapters to arrive only to find when I hooked them up you can not control them or read the RPM. So now I have to spend more money to buy all new fans that are three wire that Im finding are very hard to find as well. If I didn't have to pay for the shipping and already spent the money on the adapters that I ultimately wont need when I spring even more cash to buy new fans I would send this back! I hope Newegg will take note of these items so they will give future buyers a heads up on this fan control that will cost you an additional $20 to $30 for it to work!
Pros: Looks absolutely beautiful in my all silver / black build. Best looking SDRAM Ive ever used or seen hands down! Enabled XMP and clock settings were automatic. Flawless for the last six months. Thanks for a great product G.SKILL!
Cons: Wouldn't change a thing!
Overall Review: Recommended to all!
Great GPU as always from EVGA
Pros: The card looks as good as it performs. I have only played BF1 since I purchased this card but it performs better than I expected for such a graphically demanding game! I am running BF1on Ultra settings at 2560x1080 144 Hz on a 35" Ben Q 2k curved monitor and it is averaging 80 fps with lows occasionally dropping to the 60's but usually hovering in the 95 fps range. I was concerned I made a mistake not getting the 1080 since I had this card in my older gaming rig for a couple weeks and I was getting some serious fps drops on the four year old i5 build but on the new i7 build all I can say is WOW!!! Runs like melted butter :-) Thanks for another great GPU EVGA....Fan for life
Cons: No back plate??? Seems very strange for a card called "Black Edition" to not have a back plate. With a name like that the whole card should look special IMO! But I found the perfect solution from "Coldzero" with a beautiful custom back plate, plus a couple custom SSD covers to match, looks amazing in my NZXT Manta case!
