Great picture, interesting 3D

ASUS VG Series VG23AH Black 23" 5ms HDMI Widescreen 3D LED Monitor 250 cd/m2 ASCR 80,000,000:1, IPS Panel, Height & Swivel Adjustable with Speaker and 3D Glasses
ASUS VG Series VG23AH Black 23" 5ms HDMI Widescreen 3D LED Monitor 250 cd/m2 ASCR 80,000,000:1, IPS Panel, Height & Swivel Adjustable with Speaker and 3D Glasses

Pros: - Great picture, good colors out of the box. I haven't yet performed a color calibration - but the colors look good on start up. - Text very clear - 3D works on Cyrsis 2, just push the 3D button on the monitor and with the included glasses, the scene is transformed into 3D. - The 3D glasses are passive, they do not require batteries or electronics and are inexpensive. This is also a negative in that the vertical resolution is reduced by 1/2 when viewing 3D content. Each alternating scan line is polarized in opposite directions by the monitor screen so different images can be presented to each eye with the polarized glasses. However, the reduction is resolution is not all that noticeable in fast moving FPS games.

Cons: - Although the stand holds the monitor steady, it's wobbly when using the buttons on the monitor. However, the monitor is steady as I type this with the keyboard and monitor on the same desk

Overall Review: The 3D effect can be achieved two ways: one way by just by pushing the 3D button on the monitor, a second way by using real 3D input from, for example, a Blueray 3D source and a HDMI 1.4 video card (6xxx and higher AMD cards, I have the 6950 card) and 3D HDMI input. The downside to the ACER approach to 3D is the reduction in vertical resolution by 1/2. Adjacent scan lines have opposite polarization so two images can be presented to the eyes through the polarized glasses at the same time. This requires a compliant program such as Crysis 2 or similar. Such a program allows quick shifting of the point of view in real time to create the 3D effect. Surprisingly, the image looks pretty good in Crysis 2 - you don't have time to dwell on the image quality when shooting aliens. All video settings remained at Ultra on my setup. My Win7 64 bit system recognized the monitor on start up and set the correct, maximum resolution of 1920 x 1080 with DVI input with the supplied cables.

One stick not Corsair!

CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C8 G
CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C8 G

Pros: Corsair, good reputation (so I thought) I installed the three sticks in the 1-3-5 positions on my MSI X-58 Platinum board.

Cons: Using CPU-Z, I looked at the memory I just installed. 2 of the 3 slots had Corsair memory, position 1 had SpecTek Inc memory according to CPU-Z which was not rated by CPU-Z as 800 MHz (Corsair sticks were shown as XMP-1600 at 800MHz) For the SpecTek Inc stick, no XMP-1600 column was shown. All three sticks had the Corsair XMP-1600 labels affixed on the outside.

Overall Review: I've never seen this before. I paid for XMP-1600, not SpecTek PC3-1070H (667 MHz) (as reported by CPU-Z on one of the three sticks). Before writing this, I switched the SpecTek stick with one of the Corsair sticks and CPU-Z reported the SpecTek was now in position 3 (where I put it) and the Corsair was in position 1. I'll be returning all the sticks of memory for a refund.

Ryzen 5 3600 build - no problems

ASRock X570 PHANTOM GAMING 4 AM4 AMD X570 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard
ASRock X570 PHANTOM GAMING 4 AM4 AMD X570 SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: - M.2 easy install, about 5 seconds to do - Ryzen 5 3600 install was simple - Everything fit into my old Antec base

Cons: - The M.2 is located directly under the video card but stays at 36C with runs to 43C under stress. - RAM speed was not automatically set to 3200, the speed I bought. I went into BIOS and set XMP to 3200 (1.35v) but the speed reverted back to 2133 MHz after a reboot. - One of the three fan connections is directly under the video card (RX480) which extends over the connector. I unplugged the video card and connected the fan plug, reinserted the video card and all was fine.

Overall Review: Update: I had to manually set the speed to 3200 MHz and, most importantly, the voltage had to be increased to 1.36v vs the XMP recommended voltage of 1.35v. I set the timings at 16 18 18 18 36 as recommended by the Ryzen RAM calculator (which also recommended the 1.36v setting). After that change, everything is stable and does not reset after a reboot (which now takes 21 seconds from a cold start). Build consisted of: - Ryzen 5 3600 - Corsair Force MP600 M.2 2280 1TB PCI-Express Gen 4.0 x4 NVMe 3D TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CSSD-F1000GBMP600 - Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MHz C16 DDR4 DRAM Memory Kit - Reused my RX480 video card and 600W power supply New board fit in my old Antec ATX case, no problems there. Connected power and it booted to the USB I had prepared with a copy of WIN10 which then loaded to the M.2 drive (see photo on speed!!). I was able to reuse my old product key with the clean install (the old key was sitting on the hard drive that was not connected). MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint registration keys went okay. I had a 10-minute chat with Adobe help and finally got the old keys canceled and reinstalled on my new computer (they wanted me to uninstalled the apps first off the old computer first - which I did not do). Photoshop 4 loads in one second! Web browsing is instantaneous, the screens flash up, no delays (helped by my 200 Mbps connection but my old computer was nowhere near this fast). ASRock has a nice utility for updating all drivers and BIOS - which I used next. The only concern was the location of the M.2 drive, directly under the video card with just enough clearance for the M.2 heatsink. However, it does not overheat and stays at 36C with a run to 43 when under stress but no higher. The RAM goes in slots A2 and B2 if you only have two sticks. However, the board does not set the RAM speed to 3200 automatically (the speed I bought). See the cons, I had to manually set the speed to 3200 (not using XMP) and the voltage to 1.36v and the timing to 16 18 18 18 36 as recommended by the Ryzen RAM calculator (Google to find). This is my second build with ASRock motherboards and the M.2 drive - what a difference in speed!! I used to buy other mfg'er's boards but no more.

Fastest I've ever seen!

Corsair Force MP600 M.2 2280 1TB PCI-Express Gen 4.0 x4 NVMe 3D TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CSSD-F1000GBMP600
Corsair Force MP600 M.2 2280 1TB PCI-Express Gen 4.0 x4 NVMe 3D TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) CSSD-F1000GBMP600

Pros: - Fast!! 5005 MB/s Read, 4285 MB/s write (sequential) - 10 second installation, recognized by WIN10 upon boot - Came with heatsink

Cons: - Absolutely none except price perhaps

Overall Review: New build install on ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4 with Ryzen 5 3600 and Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MHz C16 DDR4 RAM. Loaded WIN10 via USB stick (no BIOS changes required before boot). System booted and loaded WIN10 onto the M.2. ASRock has a nice utility that checks your system for the latest drivers and loads them as your command. I updated BIOS with the same utility - no problems. Page views on the web are instantaneous! Adobe Photoshop 4 loads in less than 1 second! The M.2 comes with a heatsink that I had some concern about fitting under my video card (RX480). It barely fit. I monitored the temperature and it idles at 36C and gets up to 45C under stress but never any higher.

Works well

RAVPower RP-UC10(B) 50W/10A 6-Port iSmart USB Charging Station / USB Travel Wall Charger for Most USB-Charged Devices - Black
RAVPower RP-UC10(B) 50W/10A 6-Port iSmart USB Charging Station / USB Travel Wall Charger for Most USB-Charged Devices - Black

Pros: - Charges iPad Air 2 in the same time as the Apple AC adapter. - lLikewise for the iPhone 6 - likewise for the Kindle - Likewise LG Fuel cellphone - Replaces a handful of AC adapters without a loss of charging time - Can charge 6 devices at once, 3 of the 6 at 2.1 amps rate

Cons: Nothing yet

Overall Review: This was a bargain at Neweggs's special price of $20. What a pleasure to get ride of the tangle of chargers on my desk and on my boat.

Outstanding TV!

LG LV5500 series 42" 1080p 120Hz LED-LCD HDTV 42LV5500
LG LV5500 series 42" 1080p 120Hz LED-LCD HDTV 42LV5500

Pros: - Connects to the web via Cat-5 cable or WiFi. The apps are the most popular ones: Netflix, Prime (for movies), YouTube, Picasa, Facebook with many others available. - They got smart with the HDMI cables finally. All four have a side exit (still behind the TV so they are hidden) which allows a close wall mounting. I bought the 32" version for my boat but couldn't get it as close to the wall as I wanted to due to the space required for the rear exits of the HDMI cables. - Only weighs 29 lbs, easy to set up. - No dead pixels. - Newegg is great, ordered Sunday, got it Tuesday.

Cons: - Now out of stock. - Sound only adequate. - All other TVs look not so good now.

Overall Review: Only consumes 125w on average, very green. Comes with a stand for sitting atop a console if you don't want a wall mount (which is an extra buy, not included). Thin, only 1.2 inches thick.
