As Good As It Gets

Pros: I was on the verge of investing in a smart phone when the netbooks appeared. I reasoned that even with the iPhone, the screen would be smaller and with the required unlimited data plan, it would be far more costly over two years than a netbook. This model of the Acer Aspire One, with 1G of RAM and 160G hard drive, 6-cell battery, and with Windows XP, is great - all the power of a traditional notebook, twice the battery time, and much lighter. The screen is bright and easy to see, and the keyboard is almost full sized (the keys seem to be full sized, just packed a little closer together). Very convenient for travel or using the easy chair. Built-in WIFI and ethernet port; just needed a built-in modem to be perfect.
Cons: Yes, the case does show fingerprints. Yes, it would be a hassle to upgrade the memory. But the 1G included should be plenty for what it is designed for. I have not had problems with the wireless that some have reported. Probably won't play the latest PC games, but plenty of power to perform the web surfing, emailing, and office applications for which it was designed.
Overall Review: If these are in stock, and it meets your needs, grab one while they last! I love this device. It has the size, convenience, and power that smart phones are lacking (at least at this time). Instead of purchasing a netbook carrying case to carry this and my power cord, USB mouse, and USB modem, I am using a less expensive DVD player case - lots of those made for portable 10" DVD players in the sub-$20 range. (USB mouse and modem not included - those are carry-overs from my traditional laptop). This device is not for everyone (I haven't found any gadget that was), but it meets the need for a very convenient PC that adequately runs XP and office apps. If you are looking for something between a smart phone and full-function laptop, this is probably it. I'll continue to just use my cell phone as a phone (with a low-cost plan) and use this for surfing, email, IM'ing, etc.
