Great Drive ...

SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC512D/AM 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Desktop Upgrade Kit
SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC512D/AM 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Desktop Upgrade Kit

Pros: Great Speed / performance all around. others have given specific read/write speed numbers so I won't, but as a practical example, loading up Battlefield 3 on my standard drive could take as much as a minute, where on the 830, it will usually load up in 20 seconds or so. I'm generally in the game a good 30 seconds before any of my friends who joined at the same time.

Cons: Pricey, but a 512GB is a premium with any maker at this point. Not sure what Samsung was thinking including Ghost instead of a better "imaging" tool like other makers do. Almost wanted to deduct 1 egg for that, but I believe the rating should be reserved for the drive itself.

Overall Review: Don't bother with ghost, save yourself a bunch of time and energy and just get a copy of TrueImage instead. Norton Ghost is a huge waste of time. I haven't used it in years and was expecting that the new version would be much less of a pain, i was wrong. You would expect to be able to boot from the CD and have it copy your source disc to the new 830, but it does NOT. you have to install Ghost (in windows) and then individually copy the partitions. I wish I had bought a copy of TrueImage to do the copy instead.

Seagate Constellation ES ST32000644NS 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: ran cool, were relatively quite

Cons: I ordered 3 for a RAID 5, all were defective #1 - failed SMART tests and showed bad sectors #2 - showed lots of bad sectors #3 - was very loud when its heads were seeking both #1 & #2 showed errors using Seagate's SeaTools, haven't tried #3 but don't think i'll bother with how loud it is

Overall Review: will be contacting the Egg for refund and going with a different brand. Could have been a bad batch of course, but this seems rather troubling.

Upgrade from X-Fi Extreme Music

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional 70SB088600002 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Express x1 Interface Sound Card
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional 70SB088600002 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Express x1 Interface Sound Card

Pros: So far so good, I'm using Vista Ultimate x64 (SP1) and did not have popping that others have with my Extreme Music x-fi, but I did have issues with the Mic having bad audio or cutting out. So far I have not had the issue on the Titanium. Also the extreme music card didn't seem to handle higher level audio settings so well in 2142/BF2/etc. Where the Titanium hasn't had any problems.

Cons: Flex Jack Mic settings does not seem to have +20 dB boost option.

Overall Review: For owners of older creative cards that required Creative's own front 5.25" bay to have front mic / headphone jacks.. I was suprised to find this card actually has an analog Intel HD header. Not being able to hook up my front ports was always an annoyance with CL cards.
