ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Easy set up....fired up no problems on first boot....lots, and I mean lots of overclocking options, robust bios as well. Havent overclocked yet...but I am sure I will hit 4.0 with ease. I recommend the Coolit ECO ALC...and add a second fan for push/pull...Coretemp is showing 17c idle!!!

Cons: Not really a con, but if you plan on running 4 sticks of DDR3 2000mhz, a bios update to 0801 will be neccessary...mine came with 0505, only allowing two sticks to run at DDR3 2000...As far as the NB, the bios shows temps at 78, which I think is incorrect....but I have been playing games for hours, no problems so far.

Overall Review: My set up: Asus Crosshair 1V Phenom 2 1090T BE 8 GIG OF Mushkin Ridgeback DDR3 2000 Sapphire Toxic 5850 X2 Crossfire Thermaltake 850w Tough XT Coolit ECO ALC Intel SSD 80G for boot drive WD Velicoraptor 300gb

Frustrating!!!

BFG Tech PhysX Processing Unit 128MB GDDR3 PCI Physics Card BFGRPHYSX128P
BFG Tech PhysX Processing Unit 128MB GDDR3 PCI Physics Card BFGRPHYSX128P

Pros: Newegg's fast shipping and great service.

Cons: After trying 2 cards, kept getting same error " hardware found, but internal chipsets failed"...BFG said it was either a bad batch of cards or a conflict with my motherboard chipset drivers.

Overall Review: I really wanted this card, I even went out and got GRAW 2 just for it...oh well..I guess some things are just not meant to be.

Great!!

AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0 GHz (4.2 GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W FD8350FRHKBOX Desktop Processor
AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0 GHz (4.2 GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W FD8350FRHKBOX Desktop Processor

Pros: Updated bios to 1703 on Crosshair V, removed my old Phenom 980, dropped the 8350 in....and booted up no problem....had it up to 4.7 on 1.4625 volts in no time..idles at around 36...Probably hit 5ghz no problem..also opened up more memory speed options...2133 and 2400 are now selectable...

Cons: Only weird thing is that my wei cpu score dropped from a 7.5 with my old processor to 7.3 with the 8350...re-ran the assessment a few times...no change..should have went uo to a least a 7.7-7.8 like other reviewers have stated..

Overall Review: Good upgrade to future proof your system...An eight core processor running at 4.7 for $219.00...cant beat it...

Monster Cards!!

EVGA GeForce GTX 480 (Fermi) 1536MB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card 015-P3-1480-KR
EVGA GeForce GTX 480 (Fermi) 1536MB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card 015-P3-1480-KR

Pros: Was originally going to go with either 680's in SLI or a 690..but the prices for them are insane...I saw these cards for under $200 a piece, which is awesome since they were like over $500 a piece new when they came out.. Replaced my Sapphire 5850's with two 480's...wow...what a difference!!...WEI went from a 7.6 to a 7.9, all games running on max graphics with 60+ frames...

Cons: Yes they run hot, and yes they are power hungry...You can feel the super hot air blowing out of the cards. I am running these on a Crosshair V...plenty of space between pcie slots, and I also purchased the EVGA Backplates which help disspate heat. I am powering these with a Thermaltake TP XT 850, seems to be running fine.

Overall Review: Buy these before they sell out...Sure, the 670 and 660ti will probably beat these out...but for the price of these, you cant beat it!!....Even though they are two generations behind, the 480's were flagship cards..

Nice Board...But See Cons

ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS Crosshair IV Formula AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Great board and layout...overclocking is excellent..But NB overheating....idle about 65-70...not good...when gaming..after about 10-15 min...computer will shut down and reboot. See below.

Cons: This board has a known NB overheating issue...because of the way Asus installed the heatsink, used incorrect standoffs resulting in the cooler not making direct contact with NB chip.

Overall Review: My advice to anyone buying this board is to purchase an aftermarket water block...EK makes the best one..its a full board block....I changed mine...and what a difference!!..with just the block installed without the water, my temps on the NB went to 45 deg idle...huge dirrerence!!...once I add water...should drop even more!!
