Pros: +Sound quality +3 year warranty +high end yamaha line +steeply discounted +7.2 preout
Cons: -No networking -No usb
Overall Review: This unit doesn't have all of the bells and whistles of RX-Vx71 line. What it does have is an extra years worth of warranty. Aventage, is the current high end line of yamaha receivers. While I am not certain of all component upgrades from the RX-VXXX series, based on the extended warranty, I am confident that the quality of this unit is higher. Quality is important to me because my previous receiver's power supply failed after 2 years of use(it was a pioneer). If you're like me, in the market for a receiver around $500, and value reliability over the new features of current generation of yamaha's RX-VXXX line, then this unit is an absolute steal.
It lasted two years
Pros: I got this receiver at the same time as my speakers and it made them sound perfect. I am not an audiophile but this receiver combined with my energy speakers produced the best sound I've ever heard out of a home theater system.
Cons: Reliability. This unit was a 5 star for me until it died. I believe the power supply failed. Now I am very disappointed with it as it caused me an unexpected expense. I guess "you get what you pay for" applies well in this case. I don't know if my unit is a lemon or you can expect the same thing to happen to you in 2 years with this receiver.
Overall Review: I am going to spend more money on a receiver this time around as I do not want to replace another. Receivers at this price must be skimping on something. This thing was too good to be true, unfortunately.
Problems with this
Pros: It's cheap and it works.
Cons: It's cheap and it doesn't work that well. Severe Lag.
Overall Review: I am having severe lag problems with my network connection using this wireless adapter. I've pinged my gateway, which is about 25 ft. away, and lost 17% of the packets I sent over a 20 minute time frame with this adapter. I tested with a different wireless card at the same distance and lost 3% of the packets. At that distance, I don't think packets should be lost at all and I do put a substantial amount of blame on my cheap Westell wireless router but using the encore card compounded the problem for me. I've been troubleshooting my network for days now and I am still not 100% sure what the problem is but I'm willing to make an educated guess that the combination of a cheap wireless router and a cheap wireless network card are severely impairing my internet connectivity. I am going to hardwire the connection now.
Nice Case
Pros: No need for stand-offs when attaching atx motherboards. A thoughtful accessory box included. Attachable drive rails makes for easy removal of drives. Screwless add-on card installation. Top mounted power button and audio/usb/firewire plugs allow for easy access. 2 large 120mm fans included.
Cons: Price. 3.5" drive bay obscured a bit by overhanging power button and audio/usb/firewire hub. No door or cover for audio/usb/firewire hub for when not in use.
Overall Review: I usually buy the absolute cheapest cases for my computers but this time I decided to spend a little more a get this higher quality Rosewill case. Generally, the pros of this case do add ease of use that I have never experienced with lesser models. I also really like the thoughtful accessory case that comes with the case. Generally, unless I am on a tight budget, I will be using this case from now on.
