Most Critical Review

Great projector except for...

Optoma ML500 1280 x 800 500 Lumens DLP Projector 3000:1
Optoma ML500 1280 x 800 500 Lumens DLP Projector 3000:1

Pros: Great(720p)HD picture, lots of input options(even S-Video which is great if you want to hook up some older game consoles to it), bright: it's watchable even with a little light in the room.

Cons: No audio out. If you are using external speakers for this you have to run audio from whatever source you are using. This really hurts the portability of the unit (on-board speakers are pretty weak. Loud fan, this thing has a fairly loud fan when not in "eco mode" which brings me to my next point, there is no Eco Mode. At least, the unit I was shipped does not switch to Eco Mode. I think it is some kind of firmware bug, because I was able to switch modes once but never again after that! It's weird. The last con is the worst. I am hoping this is also something that future firmware might fix. Many users have reported this problem and I was hoping Optoma was working out a fix. It is the "Searching for Signal" bug, and it really sucks. The screen randomly goes black and the unit tells you it is "Searching for Signal". If you are lucky you will be able to get through a movie or TV show without the bug cropping up but since it is random it may happen 2 or three times in the same hour. It happened to me a bunch today which prompted me to come write this review. It is VERY frustrating and if I can't find a solution soon I will be forced to RMA this projector.

Overall Review: If it weren't for those (i'm guessing) Firmware bugs this would be a great little projector.
