Cons: This is what I ordered:
140mm Dust Proof Dust Filter for Computer Fan Black
The image on the Newegg web page depicts a fairly simple all black dust filter consisting of three parts. There is a black air filter sandwiched between two black plastic frames.
The vendor sent me the wrong dust filter. It was supposed to be an all black dust filter with three parts. Instead I received a black and orange dust filter with only two parts.
Overall Review: I cannot recommend this product because what I received did not match what I ordered. I cannot use it for what I had planned. It is a good thing I only ordered one to see what the dust filter was like before ordering a large quantity..
Pros: I purchased this external USB 3.0 card reader to replace an older USB 2.0 internal card reader. Windows 7 64 Pro recognized it immediately and automatically loaded drivers.
I inserted a card from one of my cameras and the card reader worked as expected.
This is the first time in a very long time that I didn't have to load drivers from a CD-ROM disc or go to a web site to find drivers.
Pros: Easy installation and reduced noise.
I purchased six of these fans to match the two Noctua NH-U12P SE2 CPU heatsinks I also purchased from newegg. The combination of the fans balances airflow and cooling quite nicely.
The lower rpm of the fans helps to reduce noise to an acceptable level while still providing excellent cooling.
Overall Review: These 140mm, 1,200 rpm fans are more than adequate for typical everyday use, home office use, and casual gaming. For hardcore gaming and overclocking Newegg offers Noctua 140mm fans that operate at 1,500 rpm.
These fans are not silent or inaudible. There is still some noise but they are definitely quieter than other fans I have tried. There is no high pitched sound. It is more like white background noise.
Pros: I purchased two of these kits for my home office computers - one is an Intel Core i7 system and one is an AMD APU system. Both installations were very easy. With the SecuFirm2 Multi-Socket Mounting System the CPU heatsink is held firmly in place. The NF-P12 fans operate at a maximum of 1,300 rpm. Cooling is still good while the lower rpm help reduce noise. This tower style heatsink will fit in tower cases that are a minimum of 8 inches wide measured across the top of a tower case.
Cons: 1. Cost.
2. The two NF-P12 fans come with 3-pin connectors instead of 4-pin connectors. There is no pwm feature. If you need or want the pwm feature you'll have to purchase the NF-P12 PWM fan.
3. The CPU heatsink can be installed on an Intel motherboard so that hot air is exhausted out the rear panel of a case or it can be turned 90 degrees so hot air is exhausted out the top panel of a pc case. On AMD motherboards the heatsink can only be mounted so that hot air is exhausted out the top panel of a pc case. If you want to install it so that hot air is exhausted out the rear panel of a pc case you have to purchase a separate Noctua mounting kit.
Overall Review: The Noctua NH-U12P SE2 is an older model. It is an excellent cpu cooler that is reasonably quiet and suitable for typical every day use, home office use, and casual gaming. Newegg also sells the Noctua NH-U12S which is a newer model that is more appropriate for gamers and enthusiasts. The NH-U12S comes with 120mm fans that have the pwm feature and operate at a maximum of 1,500 rpm. For hardcore gaming and extreme overclocking Newegg offers Noctua models with 140mm fans operating at 1,500 rpm.
Pros: Purchased 3 of these cases when they were on sale for a very good price. The cases were for customer builds. All three customers were very satisfied with their cases.
Cons: I read the user comments and noticed negative comments about the side panels. Yes they do flex more than older Lian Li cases but none of my customers will be taking their pc's to LAN parties or otherwise moving them so it should not be a problem.
I also read the negative comments about problems with cable management. I didn't have any problems routing and securing cables with one exception. The opening at the top right side of the case for an 8 pin power cable is too small once the motherboard is installed. I found it is easier to get the 8 pin power cable through the opening before installing the motherboard. There was no problem routing that cable or any other cable behind the motherboard tray.
There were no extra fan grills for the top panel. I purchased several black ones for less than one dollar each. For one of the builds I installed a custom fan billet on the top panel so it didn't matter.
Overall Review: Overall this is a very good case which can accomodate longer video cards and tall tower style cpu coolers.
Pros: Purchased several for customer builds. Black color matches black interior of pc cases. Came with a variety of screws for different mounting options. Very easy installation. No problem with right angle SATA connectors.
Pros: Fits a 5.25 inch drive bay perfectly. Black finish to match interior of black pc cases. Came with a variety of screws for mounting different types of devices. Multiple mounting options. Absolutely no problem with 90 degree angled SATA cables.
Overall Review: Purchased three of these for customer builds that required the removal of lower drive bays from pc cases to make room for large grapgic cards.
Pros: This short 6 inch cable was perfect for a customer's htpc build. Space was very very limited and cable management was a challenge. The cable is round instead of flat so it looks different but it still works.
Overall Review: These cables come in different lengths. If you have a lot of longer SATA cables inside your case these round cables would be easier to bundle using zip ties. Less clutter and more efficient airlfow.
Pros: This drive is actually designed for heavy duty use in servers but it definitely works equally well in single desktop pc's. Several friends have been using them for quite some time now with absolutely no problems.
Pros: Worked right out of the box. I've been using Plextor in my personal rigs and in premium customer builds for a quite a few years. Never had a problem so I don't mind paying a little more. Plextor utilities are a nice extra.
Pros: Purchased for a customer build. Very quiet. Worked as expected. Voltages well within specifications. Modular design was a very big plus because it was installed in a micro-ATX case with limited space.
Pros: The power supply definitely worked as expected. Voltages were within specifications. Unfortunately it ran too hot for a mutimedia case. The problem might be that it is an older design.
Cons: Generated too much heat for a multimedia case.
Overall Review: More appropriate for a well ventilated tower style case.
Pros: I purchased these low profile memory modules for use in a customer build that had a huge cpu heatsink extending over the memory modules. I knew there was a potential problem with memory that had extra tall heatspreaders. With these there was plenty of clearance space
Pros: I purchased these to replace stock 140mm 900 rpm case fans that didn't "sound right". Technical reviews indicated these fans were just as good as a well known brand that cost a lot more. I decided to take a chance. Glad I did. The black sleeved cables are a nice touch.
Overall Review: All fans generate sound at varying frequencies and different levels. Cougar did a good job of tuning the frequency and the level of the sound. I'm not sure if I'm explaining it correctly but I think the frequency is lower resulting in a more pleasant sound.
Pros: This cpu heatsink is 140mm tall. It fits inside the LIAN LI Black Aluminum PC-C60B ATX Media Center / HTPC Case that I purchased from Newegg. A customer requested the case for a desktop sytem instead of a htpc. The 140mm fan is fairly quiet and the heatsink does a good job of cooling.
Cons: The fan mounting clips were difficult to work with. I wish Noctua used metal brackets and screws instead. That would make for really easy installation. Needless to say this is an expensive heatsink but the customer and I are very pleased with the results.
Overall Review: Due to the design of the heatsink the memory modules with extra tall heatspreaders might be a problem. I installed standard height memory. Wound up with lots of clearance space.
Pros: A customer requested this case for a desktop pc rather than a multimedia pc. CPU Heatsinks up to 140mm tall will fit. I installed a Noctua NH-C12P SE14 that I purchased from Newegg. Had room left over. A Radeon HD 6850 also fit with room to spare. The drive mounting system is great.
Cons: The two stock 140mm 900 rpm case fans didn't "sound right". I replaced them with 140mm 1200 rpm case fans that "sounded" quieter and did a better job of cooling. I also added a third case fan. Cable management was a challenge. Luckily I found shorter SATA and power cables.
Overall Review: I bought 2 of these cases. When I saw the Newegg photos and watched a few video reviews I started thinking with a few case modifications the case would be excellent for a decent gaming rig, especially since it can accomodate a cpu heatsink that is 140mm tall.
Pros: Built an inexpensive basic entry level system for a senior citizen who is not a gamer or enthusiast. Had a video card just in case but did not need it. Instead I assigned 2GB of memory to the video. Bargain for ordinary home use. APU, motherboard, and 8GB memory cost less than $200.00
Cons: Not exactly a con but the stock cpu heatsink and fan that come with the retail version of this APU aren't the greatest. I bought this OEM version and installed a third party heatsink and fan that is quieter and does a better job of cooling the cpu.
Overall Review: Would also be suitable for a home theater pc and some games. Would not be suitable for hardcore gamers and enthusiasts. AMD is releasing their brand new Trinity Socket FM2 APU this month. The first Socket FM2 motherboard was released yesterday morning.
Pros: Worked right out of the box. Built a basic entry level pc for a senior citizen who is not a gamer or enthusiast. Had a video card just in case but did not need it. Instead assigned 2GB out of 8GB installed memory to video.
Overall Review: Would also be good for a home theater pc. Would not use it for a hardcore gaming rig. AMD Lano APU's and Socket FM1 boards will be replaced by AMD Trinity APU's and Socket FM2 boards in the very near future.
Pros: I am not an audiophile. Instead, I am hard of hearing and have been wearing hearings aids for over 10 years. I listened to a lot of speakers and this was the center channel speaker whose sound was clear, crisp, clean, and undistorted for me. Newegg special promo was $109.00 and free shipping. Terrific!
Cons: Absolutely none. My cabinet shelf was a little over 18 inches wide so the speaker fit below the TV with a little bit of room to spare.
Overall Review: Ordered on a Tuesday and Fedex delievered on Thursday.
Newegg has another promo this weekend - Polk Audio Monitor 40 speakers for $119.00 plus free shipping. I am going to order them to compliment the CS2.
Pros: There are several variations of this motherboard. I think this is the original version. Unlike the other variations, this one has unique spacing between the SATA headers. There is extra space between two sets of SATA headers to allow for the newer longer video cards. The primary video card slot is located lower than normal. It turned out to be another plus because I could improve ventilation, airflow, and operating temperatures. The SATA headers face the front of a pc case which is a plus for cable management. Lots of headers on the motherboard and rear i/o panel for connecting a large variety of components. Onboard video for those who don't want or can't afford a video card. A video card can be added later. Crossfire capable if you want to use two video cards. Newer southbridge chipset. Costs considerably less than similar boards offered by well known major manufacturers and still gets the job done.
Cons: The memory slots are too close to the cpu slot. It's a fairly standard layout typical of many motherboards. For those who want to use large cpu heatsinks you won't be able to use memory modules with those tall memory heatsinks in the memory slot closest to the cpu slot. You'll have to install standard memory modules before installing the large heatsinks. An alternative would be to mount two large capacity memory modules with tall heatsinks in the third and fourth memory slots.
Overall Review: I've read a lot of technical reviews which indicate Biostar has a reputation for building entry level or low budget motherboards. I don't think that is the case with this particular board. It's an excellent board.
