JBOD WHS Machine
Pros: Perfect for a home built WHS. 5 drives over esata connection to WHS doesn't slow it down like a usb does. Fan is quiet
Cons: Not a screwless design Not the best tray design, but if you've worked with other tray designs before it's nothing to bat an eye at, just don't be too hard or something might snap.
Overall Review: Looking to buy another one, but they stopped the 1.5tb combo deal. Who are they trying to kid with the 360GB deal? What a waste of a drive bay. Btw, if you don't have a PCIe x1 slot in your WHS, be sure your esata has port multiplier.
Just too slow
Pros: Cheap home NAS that is easy to use and setup.
Cons: Too, too, too slow. MP3 streaming is fine, highly compressed video is not. Don't even try to write to it unless you have some wet paint and are in the mood to watch it dry.
Overall Review: Probably going to rip out the two hard drives and use them for something else or try to find someone willing buy this thing from me.
1 out of 3 worked
Pros: Cheap 2TB
Cons: Hitachi
Overall Review: Ordered two, one worked, one doa. Just got my replacement, it is doa as well. Never buying Hitachi again. Just pay the extra $20 and get a nice Seagate or WD.
No lemon here
Pros: - Dual band is great for multiple users and multimedia - Looks cool - Works - gigabit
Cons: I'm not sure what everyone else is talking about with this router. I can see the range being a con. But, It covers my whole house, so how much farther do you want it to go? Maybe everyone else got lemons, but works 100% no restarts, no connection drops, dual bands with N on one, NG on the other.
Overall Review: I was really hesitant to buy the router because of the low 'egg' scores. But, it works fine for me. I decided to ignore the negative reviews and give it a try. I'm happy I did. I already own the gaming d-link (855?), so I like to switch up brands and the dual band is a big seller for dealing with congestion and roommates. I say buy it.
It's nice
Pros: - light - soft plastic - nice cord management - fits my 16 incher fine - can't hear it at all... maybe if you lift up your laptop you'll hear it, but... - looks nice and non-gamerish... - feels at home on skin, jeans, etc
Cons: - only one fan (and a pretty weak one at that) - takes up a usb slot and doesn't provide one in return - wave design makes carrying it (in your bag) somewhat of a hassle
Overall Review: Happy with the purchase as it does keep the bottom of my laptop cool and I no longer end up with burns on my legs. Provides the necessary separation between laptop and vent blocking surface, thus my laptop fans don't spin up. If you're looking for heat separation and something that is easy, get it. If you want max performance or to be a gamer and impress your lan buddies, look else where.
Sharp edges hurt
Pros: - quiet - cool - laptop doesn't rev up the fans anymore / become burning hot (so it's working)
Cons: - sharp aluminum edges cut. Not for lap use. - big (but obviously, it supports a 17 incher, so...) - heavy - not portable - fan guards on the bottom don't keep out fingers / clothing / bed sheets
Overall Review: Not really portable and only for desktop use (don't move it). If you expect to use this in bed or on the move, you're going to be out of luck. My arms are all cut up from the sharp aluminum edges.
