Great Battery, Lasts Longer Than Expected

CyberPower OR1500LCDRM1U 1500 VA 900 Watts UPS
CyberPower OR1500LCDRM1U 1500 VA 900 Watts UPS

Pros: 1U and Rackmount - The battery fits perfectly in a 1U slot on my rack, and is narrow enough to work with most rails. The handles can be optionally attached if you need an extra 1/4-1/2" of thickness depending on your rail kit, allowing it to be compatible with even more kits. Front Panel LED is easy to read, not too cluttered with useless icons. The uncovered button changes the info displayed, cycling between Input Voltage, Output Voltage, Battery Run Time (Minutes), Load Capacity (in %), and Battery Capacity (in %). 6 outlets on the back panel: 4 battery/surge and 2 surge-only. There are additional ports (USB, serial, RJ-11/45), but I didn't use those, so not sure how well they work.

Cons: None so far, it managed to survive a quick outage a few nights ago.

Overall Review: This battery packs more of a punch than I anticipated. With 2 servers at 150-200W each, plus a network switch, router, and modem (these 3 are connected via rackmount surge protector, as they have a lower power requirement), the battery lasted a full 30 minutes unplugged before sounding the low battery alarm.

Did Not Glow Under UV, Half Didn't Work

Coboc Model SC-SATA3-18-LL-GR 18" SATA III 6Gb/s Data Cable w/Latch,UV Green
Coboc Model SC-SATA3-18-LL-GR 18" SATA III 6Gb/s Data Cable w/Latch,UV Green

Pros: Nice color even when not glowing (more on that later). Latches worked.

Cons: No Glow - I ordered 5 of these for a remodel of my rig, with the hopes that they would glow against the black lights I was installing in the chassis. However, none of the cables lit up at all under the light (I verified with a highlighter that the UV light was working). 3 of the 5 cables did not work reliably enough to support a RAID array. They would cut out at random, usually during a reboot. Replacing them with another cable resolved the issue, so I removed all 5 from my system.

Overall Review: I would have returned/replaced them again had they glowed at all, and assumed I had a bad batch of cables (it happens). However, because they didn't even meet the UV expectation, I simply tossed them.

Solid Rail for 1U Chassis

iStarUSA RP-Rail-20-1U 20" Sliding Rail Kit for 1U Short Rackmount Chassis
iStarUSA RP-Rail-20-1U 20" Sliding Rail Kit for 1U Short Rackmount Chassis

Pros: Fits on a 1U chassis Instructions with the rails were fairly clear, didn't manage to build it backwards like other rail kits I've used. Included all necessary hardware, including cage nuts (the little square clip-on rack nuts) and bolts, same finish as the rails: polished steel. Location of the mounting holes on the chassis rail piece lined up with multiple different chassis. The rails glide easily, even with a heavy load on them (see other).

Cons: Very greasy out of the bag. Not removing a star for that though, I'd rather have too much grease and clean it up a little, than too little grease and have rough rails. Reattachment of the chassis rails to the rack rails too a LOT of alignment, the guides to line them up were not really angled to assist. I've seen several models (other brands) with much easier rail guides, so one egg lost for this poor design.

Overall Review: Overall, this rail kit is pretty good for the cost ($34.99 when I bought it). I ended up using it on my UPS battery to allow easier connections to the battery, so this thing can hold at least 65lbs. with ease.

Solid Chassis for Lightweight Server

iStarUSA D-214-MATX Black Steel 2U Rackmount Chassis 2 External 5.25" Drive Bays
iStarUSA D-214-MATX Black Steel 2U Rackmount Chassis 2 External 5.25" Drive Bays

Pros: Layout - The placement of the drive bays, OD bay, and power supply leave enough room for cables to be tucked between the bays without too much hassle. Case - The case feel sturdy, and most of the metal has a polished or painted finish. The few surfaces that are unfinished steel (mostly the drive bays), at least had dull edges, so no risk of cutting fingers or cable insulation. Racking - The front handles have mounting points to directly mount this unit to a 2-post frame/rack, but are optional and can be removed easily (3 screws on each handle). The handles can be left in place even with rails installed (my setup), allowing the server to slide in and out for cabling. Rails - The chassis came with none, but that was expected. The four mounting holes along each side of the chassis are spaced so that most rail kits will work with it (have used a 20" and 27" rail kit from different vendors, no issues).

Cons: No exhaust fans - system is intake only fans. But then again, there isn't much room to install exhaust fans anyway if you use a Micro-ATX board.

Fun Game, Looks Beautiful on PS4

Call of Duty: Black Ops III - PlayStation 4
Call of Duty: Black Ops III - PlayStation 4

Pros: SPLIT SCREEN EVERYTHING. This was the #1 reason I bought the game (not a huge COD fan, at least not since MW3). My wife wanted to start playing games with me, so I tried to find split screen games for us to play. This was one of the few that I've found that offered split screen on more than just local play. Campaign isn't the same cookie cutter maps as the last few COD titles, more vertical play and more options to choose (go left/right, etc.). This pack came with the NukeTown map, which was a nice little bonus. The new unlock system is nice, you can choose to focus unlocks on weapons/gear you want, and ignore the ones you don't want.

Cons: None so far, at least nothing non-functional about the game. See Other for more thoughts.

Overall Review: Multiplayer matchmaking is still lousy, but that's nothing new. Starting off against high Prestige players makes for a few frustrating rounds when you're still unlocking the first tier of weapons/gadgets. The game is disc-based, and you will need it in the PS4 to play. I've tried some of the "uninstall and download back from the library" trick, which has worked on other disc-based games. However, no luck for this one. It's not a bad thing, it's just a tad bit annoying having to swap the disc out with movies (maybe I'm just lazy).

Solid RAM for the Price

Team Elite Plus 8GB DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model TPD38G1600HC1101
Team Elite Plus 8GB DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model TPD38G1600HC1101

Pros: Decent size, no huge heat spreaders. Have yet to have a DOA or failure after purchasing several sets of these over the months.

Cons: None so far.
