GREAT value even at retail price

Pioneer VSX-821-K 5.1-Channel 3D Ready A/V Receiver
Pioneer VSX-821-K 5.1-Channel 3D Ready A/V Receiver

Pros: This unit is a steal at < $200. It's micro processor does just about everything with digital media except predict the future. However, getting it to do all these things is a little complicated. After studying the instruction booklet, I hooked up a Blu-ray player, DVD player and my Roku with no trouble. This unit has enough power to drive me from my townhouse when driving my Polk Monitor 60 II speakers. It has all the bells and whistles for any 5.1 system you wish to hook-up. You can tweak the medium just about anyway you want. So far, the receiver has work flawlessly

Cons: 1.) In order to view the set-up menu on the TV you will have to attach a RCA video cable as the set-up does not work with HDMI cables. This is minor. 2.) It's FM sensitivity is a little weak. This unit would not pick up as many FM stations as my old Sherwood when connected to the same old dipole antenna configuration. However, I quickly added some of these stations with Roku's TuneIN radio app. Maybe that is the future? I'm not too sure about the quality of audio signal you get when listening to radio in this fashion, but its seems to sound just fine.

Overall Review: I gave this 4 stars because I listen to FM a great deal. I didn't attach the FM attachment that was shipped with this receiver. I used my old dipole. This may not be a concern if you have an outside FM antenna. All other uses for this receiver; I give 5 stars.

Incredible deal.

Polk Audio Monitor60C Series II Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Cherry) Single
Polk Audio Monitor60C Series II Floorstanding Loudspeaker (Cherry) Single

Pros: A friend of mind came over a couple of weeks ago and made disparaging comments about by 10 year old Bose Accoustimass 3 speakers that I was using for my 3.0 HT set-up. After doing some research, I decided on the Polk Tsi400. More research and I discovered there was not much difference between the Tsi 400 and the Polk Audio Monitor60 Series II speakers. This age difference was quickly forgotten when I found I could purchase the Monitor60s for half the price of the TSi 400s. I ordered a new pair from Newegg and hooked them up in normal configuration. The sound I heard was jaw dropping amazing. The mid-bass was tight and clean. The imaging was incredible and I was hearing things in my music that I don't remember hearing before. I have a 100 watt/channel amp and achieved a loud level without pushing the amp at all. For music, the bass is find so I will not be ordering a sub-woofer. I really don't care for the stuff that goes on below 60hz anyway.

Cons: I didn't do this sooner.

Overall Review: Louder is not better.
