Pros: I have four of these units and recommend them for those who want outboard storage. Two are in use with MS windows systems, and another two are on Linux servers. One is 4TB, the other three are 8TB. PRO: These come ready formatted for Windows. Simply pug in and the are recognized and ready for use on MS windows. For Linux they proved useful in moving data off an HPC cluster to my own servers.

Cons: CON: (1) If you need them on Linux they have to be reformatted - and that takes some time. (2) They are slow compared to internal drives. For example: for 8 TB of data it took several days to move the files, and in backup off one server moving 1.5 TB took over 12 hours.

Overall Review: Recommended without reservation. I have used WD internal drives for years and these meet my expectations with this vendor.
