Good SSDs at a Great Price

Intel X25 SSDSAM080G2GC 80GB Internal Solid State Drive
Intel X25 SSDSAM080G2GC 80GB Internal Solid State Drive

Pros: Good drives with a SATA II specification. Speeds around 200 MBps read 70 MBps write. Bought a bunch of these to speed up old systems and man did they deliver. While not as fast as newer SSDs, I would highly recommend these for older systems that need a speed boost from a solid state boot drive or for simple office machines that only need the basics loaded on them for work.

Cons: These drives did not immediately get picked up by my external "toaster" drive dock which was running on USB 3. Switched to eSATA and they finally showed up after a reboot. Downloaded the Intel SSD Toolbox to check these drives and update their firmware. These drives were several firmware revisions behind the current one which gives them a nice boost to performance. Had to apply the firmware update twice on several of the drives as the first update did not take. Make sure you run the Intel SSD Toolbox as Administrator for updating these drives. Also, out of the four drives one had been heavily written to with the Intel SSD Toolbox showing over 238,000 GB of data written to it with it's drive life registering a very low 25% left. Had to send that one back for replacement. So always check these drives with this application. Also be sure to use the Intel SSD Toolbox to optimize these drives as there are a few tweaks it can apply to the OS to allow them to run faster. And, keep in mind, that after an OS install and updates, expect to only have access to around 40 GBs of space left for programs and applications as these drives are quite small at only 80 GBs.

Overall Review: Definitely recommend these drives at this price point. However be sure to double-check them with the Intel SSD Toolbox for their drive life expectancy, firmware revisions/updates, and optimizations. If using on older systems you can also use the Intel SSD Toolbox to trigger TRIM as older OSes don't support it out of the box. I ordered four of these drives and out of those four these were the drive life percentages I received: 98%, 95%, 75%, 25%. That being said, these are most likely certified working pulls from enterprise leftovers and not refurbished, so make sure to check these drives with the Intel SSD Toolbox application for the condition of the drive you've received. It always helps when buying items like this to have Newegg Premier as you can send these back for refund or replacement free of charge and worry free if you do get a dud of a drive.

Great Cable!

Coboc SATAMLP4F-12 1 ft. SATA Male to 4 pin Molex LP4 Female IDE Hard Drive Power Adatper Converter Cable,M/F
Coboc SATAMLP4F-12 1 ft. SATA Male to 4 pin Molex LP4 Female IDE Hard Drive Power Adatper Converter Cable,M/F

Pros: Excellent cable that allows you to convert a standard molex connector to a female SATA connector.

Cons: Cable is not sleeved, but is also kept out of sight in my build so not that big a deal.

Overall Review: Helps to eliminate multiple cables coming from the power supply. Good build quality. Does what it's supposed to do.

Fast and Great Transfer Software

Transcend 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) TS512GSSD370
Transcend 2.5" 512GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) TS512GSSD370

Pros: Excellent value! Comes with a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter to mount this drive in a standard HDD 3.5" bay. Software is available at the Transcend website called SSD Scope. Allows you to flawlessly clone your current drive to the new one and automatically extends the partition to take up the rest of the drive. Just make sure your actual data on your old drive fits on the new one. Cloned my 600GB HDD to this 512GB SSD. No issues, was back up and running my computer after 45mins of cloning around 243GBs of data. Fast! My SATA3 controller burned out on my MB but my SATA2 controller can barely keep up with this drive. This thing is fully saturating the SATA2 bus at 270 MBps!!! Would be capable of ~550 MBps on a SATA3 controller.

Cons: There are faster drives out there but this thing is definitely fast enough for even the enthusiast user. Using this in my desktop, but for you laptop guys, this drive does not support DevSleep low power mode so if you put this in a laptop you will see slightly shorter battery life than an SSD that does enable that energy saving feature.

Overall Review: This replaced an aging WD Raptor 600GB drive and man did it deliver! ~80 MBps sustained on that old drive while hitting ~268 MBps sustained transfer with it handicapped by a SATA2 controller... wow. This drive is definitely a no brainer best bang for your buck SSD.

Excellent Fans Move TONS Of Air

Bgears b-Blaster 80 2 Ball Bearing 80mm Case Fan
Bgears b-Blaster 80 2 Ball Bearing 80mm Case Fan

Pros: Excellent 80mm fans that move tons of air!!! Excellent static pressure and airflow. Installed them into an Infocus IN78 DLP 720p projector and they keep the thing cool and running. Before, the stock old fans would keep the projector running for 20mins and it would overheat. I've run the projector with these fans for hours now trying to catch up on Game of Thrones with no issues. Fans are definitely not quiet, but not that loud either, like other users have reported.

Cons: Fan construction is of lower quality materials and finish, but not made of bamboo like some other users have reported. I've had no problems with fins breaking off or pulling out cables, but I only hit the gym twice a week, so that may be the root cause.

Overall Review: These fans have no speed control built in. No PWM or voltage control at all. They have two speeds: Off and Full-Blast-Super-Cold! Which for me is fine because I needed them to run at full blast. If you need fans that are speed variable please look for PWM or voltage controlled fans.

Great RAM After a CMOS Reset

G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-8GBXM
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL7D-8GBXM

Pros: Solid and stable RAM. Runs at advertised speed at stock 1.5v which is awesome. Some of the lowest timings available for DDR3 1600 RAM. Attractive kit matched my motherboard (GA-790FXTA-UD5) color scheme. Also really cheap. Best bang for your buck if you're looking for DDR3 1600 RAM.

Cons: Too pretty and too fast. Had to take some tweaking to get it to run, but that's more to do with my motherboard and CPU initially not being cool with the new kids on the block. They are good friends now - like Phoebe and Monica. Biggest con is they went on sale 4 days after I bought the kit. But whatevs...

Overall Review: RAM didn't immediately play nice with my AMD motherboard (GA-790FXTA-UD5) which does not officially support DDR3 1600 unless you OC. Trouble seemed to stem from old settings stuck in CMOS. The sticks would only run when I set timings to auto. After clearing CMOS and re-setting up everything in the BIOS, and a couple of tweaks here and there, the RAM worked perfectly on my AMD system. Was worried the integrated memory controller on the Phenom II X4 980 CPU was not up to snuff, but after some coaxing the RAM is working perfectly at the stock settings listed above. So if you have issues installing these sticks into your system, try a CMOS reset to see if that helps.

Great Cable

Coboc LP45TX4-18 Sleeved 18 inch 4-pin Molex LP4 to Five(5) x 4-pin TX4 PWM Fan Power Splitter Adapter Converter Cable with one TX4 Female for RPM Feedback
Coboc LP45TX4-18 Sleeved 18 inch 4-pin Molex LP4 to Five(5) x 4-pin TX4 PWM Fan Power Splitter Adapter Converter Cable with one TX4 Female for RPM Feedback

Pros: Does what it says. Splts out your PWM fan connector to five other fans. Looks great and has good build quality.

Cons: Wish the one connector to the main fan with all 4 wires was clearly marked. Other connections had only 3 pins which was easy to figure out though so no stars off.

Overall Review: Really a high quality cable at a low price. Very helpful after installing Hyper 212 EVO heatsink. Had it in a push/pull configuraiton with two 120mm fans, a 120mm exhaust case fan, and two 140mm exhaust case fans. Easily connected all fans to the PWM connection and allowed for great cable management. None of the five fan cables are seen from the front and now all are controlled via the motherboard's CPU's PWM connection which is awesome.
