Unreal performance

SAMSUNG 840 EVO 2.5" 500GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7TE500BW
SAMSUNG 840 EVO 2.5" 500GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) MZ-7TE500BW

Pros: This is by far one of the best upgrades I've done in a long time! Windows boot and shut down times have been cut down significantly, with all applications opening up virtually instantly. Load times in games are just laughable now. But the most pleasant surprise was how painless the migration process was. Samsung migration tool clones your OS drive right from within Windows, and makes it extremely simple. Copied all content from a 500GB WD Blue (about 50% full) in around 40 minutes (SATA to SATA). As long as you close out of all applications/files, you shouldn't have any issues. Also disabled my network card to avoid problems. One shut down and drive swap later, picked up right from where I left off. Except now with a Windows 7 WEI score of 7.7 for HD transfer rates, and an overall score of 7.6 (up from 5.9).

Cons: Already had been exposed to SSD performance at work, just wishing I hadn't held off for almost 3 years before upgrading my home gaming rig. Was mostly waiting for the $/GB ratio to become more reasonable though. Be warned that you may develop SSD-itis, and be inclined to upgrade all of your OS drives to SSDs. Already considering a Samsung 1TB SSD for my Mac OS X drive (hackintosh). Had some initial concerns about the overall longevity of SSDs as well, but research addressed these fears, considering my average daily read/write amounts.

Overall Review: SAMSUNG 850 Pro drive went on sale almost immediately after purchasing this drive, and includes a promo code for Assassin's Creed Unity. But didn't want to deal with hassle of returns and re-cloning, though from SSD to SSD, it probably would've been like 10 minutes. Too happy with this drive to send it back - highly recommend it! Nightmare in a box - BEWARE!

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card

Pros: The sound that this card outputs is simply amazing! The crystalizer makes high sound crisp and the lows shake my neighbors out of bed.

Cons: Its great when it works - unfortunately, thats not the case all of the time! If you go on Creative's website, you'll see that this a popular card on its forum for its problems. Software seems to be very glitchy, manage to keep it stable by ONLY using the updated drivers and using a third-party application to switch between Gaming and Entertainment mode, as well as enabling other features. For the first time, I heard the famous cracking and popping sounds that owners have complained about in a Tom Clancy game. The packaging also looked like it was tampered with. RMA, here we go. Too many head aches. Not worth your time and effort.

Overall Review: I've actually looked in to another X-Fi solution - the X-Fi Xtremegamer from the Fatal"1"ty series. Its only a few bucks more, and includes 64mb of X-Ram. Haven't read any complaints yet. Check this card out. I will be posting a review fairly soon with my experience with this card. BTW, this is my first bad experience with NewEgg - ever. Still a great company, and my business isn't going anywhere else.

Amazing upgrade!

SAMSUNG S22C650D Matte Black 21.5" Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 1,000,000:1 (1000:1)
SAMSUNG S22C650D Matte Black 21.5" Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 1,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Pros: Upgraded from 3x Samsung 930B (5:4) to these monitors - what a MASSIVE (and long overdue) improvement! LED + PLS (IPS) technology is pretty amazing out of the box, haven't even bothered to calibrate further. Needless to say, gaming in Eyefinity on these (48:9) is much more superior to my previous setup (15:4). For newer games on my aging XFX HD 6870 2GB, reverting to a single monitor is still more immersive, and not as taxing on my GPU. The bezels on this monitor embrace horizontal Eyefinity beautifully! After lusting after the Samsung MD230x3 with their 0.76CM bezels for years, was surprised that the side bezels are only 1CM wide! Coming from monitors with 2CM bezels EACH, really enjoy the 50% reduction in bezels for triple monitor gaming. Matte displays were also key for me, as I typically have multiple light sources to my rear. Monitors are more than bright enough at 20-50% brightness while the sunrises directly behind me. Both DVI and VGA cables are included!

Cons: Delayed to get these sooner!

Overall Review: The included stands are top-notch, and would have certainly used them on a bigger desk. Using a DoubleSight triple monitor stand instead for now, but the alignment isn't perfect. DisplayPorts are a nice bonus too, though I'm using some active Mini DisplayPort to DVI adapters for now. If they ever fail, purchased Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cables as an alternative.

Still working as well!

SIIG CE-CTC012-S2 Toslink-to-Coaxial converter
SIIG CE-CTC012-S2 Toslink-to-Coaxial converter

Pros: Purchased in 2008, still does a great job doing what it's meant to do! I've tried comparing converted audio to non-converted audio, there is virtually no difference to my ears.

Cons: That it's discontinued?

Overall Review: Built-in sound card on my motherboard isn't the best, nice to have an optical audio out alternative. Even when using headphones, prefer to connect my headphones to my receiver getting the digital audio, instead of the standard mobo jacks.

Works great

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model F2-5300CL5D-4GBSA
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Laptop Memory Model F2-5300CL5D-4GBSA

Pros: Used this to upgrade a Macbook 3,1 from 1GB to 4GB. Immediate performance increase, Lion OS X 10.7.4 installed and runs great. Get it while you can!

Cons: Dated technology, "relatively" pricey.

Overall Review: Love the memory, but amazed that for $5 dollar less was able to purchase 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 desktop memory. This has always been the pricing game of legacy hardware, prices should plummet eventually.

Love my quadruple monitors!

SAPPHIRE 100925 Active Mini Display Port (M) to Single-Link DVI (F) Cable
SAPPHIRE 100925 Active Mini Display Port (M) to Single-Link DVI (F) Cable

Pros: Was already a happy owner of one of these; flawlessly in use for the last 6-months in my triple monitor setup. Purchased a 4th to add my HDTV into the mix - I've fallen in love all over again. No regrets on the adapter here, now just need a better HDTV!

Cons: Using an DVI to HDMI cable, overscan options were disabled in AMD drivers when switching from the DVI-I port to the display port. Recent driver update may have already addressed this. Choosing a custom resolution is my work around for now.

Overall Review: Best cost efficient, eyefinity-certified active display port adapter in my experience. Glad I gave it a shot twice, regardless of the occasional nightmarish reviews on here.
