Best Media Center option
Pros: The anti-Microsoft people are gonna hate me for this but oh well, it is what it is. I wasted so much time trying out many of the alternative media centers because I was following the advice and recommendations in many of the media forums on the net until I got really frustrated looking for a all-in-one media center. Then I finally bit the bullet and tried MCE, what a difference! It does everything, movies, live TV, pictures, music, internet, etc. What more do you need? I will do my own dishs thankyou.
Cons: None, unless you want to say that the cost is a disadvantage. I have tried the free ones and they don't stack up to MCE. With most of the free ones and even with some of the purchased ones you get what you pay for.
Overall Review: I haven't even gotten into any of the plugins yet. Gotta a lot to do.
Hard drive was defective
Pros: Easy installation and ample storage.
Cons: The drive worked for a few days at first but then started to disappear during use. After I got all of my applications installed, (of course) the drive started to stop responding to my system WindowsXP SP2. Sometimes the bios would recognize it and sometimes it wouldn't, then during those times it did the drive would stop during operation. I have tried different Sata II ports and new cables, no go. It was getting worse. I am replacing it with s Seagate.
Works as designed
Pros: The construction seems to be very sturdy, well made. Typically with these dual slot cards with a heat sink, you will see the outer most unsupported corner of the card drop significantly after installation, but in this case it droped very little. Up to this point my Corsair 850w PSU's cooling fan would never kick on and my system is an overclocked Intel i7-4770K 3.5GHz processor with 32gigs ram, surely I thought adding the card would demand enough additional power to cause the cooling fan to kick on. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it did not. So the power draw is not that bad. As for the cooling fans of the card itself, I can barely hear them. Very cool!!!
Cons: None
Overall Review: I use my PC primarily for Lightroom and Photoshop use, very little video editing at all. I read many articles how adding a VC to a photo editing machine will not benefit you much at all, they were all wrong. Adding this card has helped to speed up my workflow quite a bit. I am very pleased with the results.
Effective and quiet, awesome!
Pros: I used to water cool but prefer this heatsink much better because it keeps the temps down in the low 30s C, even on my overclocked i7 4770k. This thing is whisper quiet and even though it's tall, it does fit inside an Antec 1200 case without the side fan on the door panel. Comes with multiple mounts and assorted connectors. I love the option of adding an additional fan if needed.
Cons: The color if it bothers you but no big deal to me. Not docking an egg for it.
Overall Review: This unit does not block any of the ram slots on the Asus Z87 pro board.
Awesome board
Pros: Great overclocking board right out of the box, no issues. Wifi is cool but I prefer Ethernet for my main desktop. The Dual Intelligent Processors 4 for Four Way Optimization program that overclocks the entire system is very very very cool!! I wanted an overclocked system but didn't want to spend hours doing it like the old days, this did the trick and probably better than I would have. Plenty of fan headers (x4 cases fans + CPU fan header) to allow the Fan Expert2 program integrated with Dual Intelligent Processors to tweak your OC to the best settings based on your equipment. Lots of Sata connectors and USB connectors. Asus put a lot of thought and planning into these Z87 boards, well done Asus!!!
Cons: None
Awesome PSU
Pros: The modular design is a must and the fact that the connectors slightly snap into place gives you that solid connection feel. I have no complaints with the modular ribbon cable designs, it works. I am running an Azuz Z87 + i7 4770K CPU OC'd and the fan only runs when the load requires it and so far it has not kicked on at all. I am running an Azuz Z87 + i7 4770K CPU OC'd, 32gigs ram but no video card. I over bought my PSU for the future. Lots of cables, that's a nice bonus!
Cons: The bags for the cables and PSU are really not necessary. In fact they could have reduced the cost a bit leaving those out. I guess I will find something to use them for.
