Fine performance - great price!
Pros: Plenty fast, very inexpensive, and it's BIG! I exercised it a bunch on arrival just to make sure that if was going to fail early, it would do so during the Newegg return period. It now has worked flawlessly for the last 4 months.
Cons: Only what is common to all drives this big. While this is the among fastest drives I've used in a desktop (at about 90 to 120 MB/second ) because it is SO BIG it takes a some time to format, clone, fill-up, etc. It's a bit like filling up a stadium through a doorway designed for a theater... it just takes a while to get everybody in or out.
Overall Review: Upon arrival, I filled it up a couple of times with copies of large files just to exercise it. Supposedly this isn't necessary, but I never trust a new drive right away. Actually I never trust *any* drive completely... old or new, fast or slow, big or small, expensive or cheap, good brand or bad... hard drives fail... even SSDs can fail (at a lower rate). That is why we have backups! duh! Statistically the failure-rate-difference between brands is minimal, and no brand is or will ever be failure-proof enough to get you out of backups for data that you care about. Please stop all the assertions based on tiny sample sizes that one brand fails and another one never does... Anyone whining about loosing their precious data has only themselves to blame. This has been doing a great job of storing my back-ups, and large media files. Stop shopping and get TWO today! (One is for backups remember?)
I wanted to give 5 stars
Pros: Great Value 50% of a gtx 1080 for 30% of the price. Really impressed with the performance at this price point!
Cons: Drivers! - mouse pointer corruption! unbelievable! This bug has plagued ATI for decades and to have it return to ruin my Out-of-box experience gaming with my kids on Christmas Day... is just atrocious software quality control. Shaking my head.
Overall Review: Apparently the issue showed up in 16.12.1 (12/07/2016) and was supposedly resolved in the 16.12.2 (12/19/2016) release (driver 16.50.2011) which was "optional" so the "easy" web-based installer and the auto-updater didn't pick-up it up automatically. You have to explicitly download the full installer with this later version. Another fail! If you've fixed an embarrassing bug, make sure the easy button will get it out to people! Shaking my head again. I so want to root for AMD for selling a great product a good price, but this kind of repeated failure in execution leaves me bewildered. After wasting 50 minutes manually downloading and clean installing drivers and rebooting, I think this is solved for now. With the whole FreeSync/Gsync thing, I really wanted to become an AMD fanboy again but I just can't yet.
Newegg - Best and service
Pros: Good OEM toner.
Cons: wish Samsung had higher capacity cartridges.
Overall Review: I shopped around this time just to make sure... of course Newegg still has the best price I could find. It was almost half the price of the local office-supply stores. I considered the two-pack to save about $7 more by buying two at once, but decided on this single pack. Shipped same day, great external packaging, (some places just slap a label on the retail box... not Newegg of course) It had been six months since I needed to buy toner.
Great Service
Pros: Brand new, name-brand equipment. Works great. Best price I found in 30 min. shopping around. Stop looking around and get this one.
Cons: none.
Overall Review: Apparently drop-shipped directly from the manufacturer. Arrived two days later with the rest of my Newegg order.
Works Solid, Ports for everything.
Pros: Solid. Works great for me. Simplifies cables under the desk, as only one USB cable goes to the computer while keyboard, mouse, printer, camera, and scanner all plug-in to this with two ports to spare!
Cons: Maybe a matter of taste, but the lights on each side of every port are always on, even if you've only got one thing plugged in you've got eight bright lights glaring at you. Also, my wife would have preferred all black over dark gray /light gray but this is the closest I found.
Overall Review: After power a power interruption, sometimes a bit of garbage data is sent to the printer and wastes a page or two with random symbols. This never happened with the printer plugged directly to the computer.
Be sure to have a back-up
Comments: I've seen a number of hard-drives in my time, and even had a few fail on me, usually with some bad sectors or a SMART warning or something where you still have a chance to coax you most valuable data off before returning it. Not the case with this drive. It worked fine for 4 months then one day I rebooted and poof!! - not even detected by bios or the special tools from the Hitatchi website. And I had no backups because I had become complacent dealing with other drives. There is a bright side... if it fails in your first month, NewEgg will get a replacement too you a lot fast than Hitatchi does!
