Long life,

Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive Bare Drive
Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 1.5Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: 5 year warranty expired in 2012, lasted another 4 years beyond that. Longest lasting drive I've ever had.

Cons: Failed suddenly, albeit after 9 years.

Overall Review: Would buy again, if SSDs weren't so much better than HDDs

Worked great until AsusUpdate failed

ASUS P5K3 DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASUS P5K3 DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Worked perfectly for 4 years.

Cons: Updating BIOS is dicey.

Overall Review: HD issues lead me to try to update the BIOS using the AsusUpdate windows software from the Asus support site. Failed on flashing, and bricked the whole mess. Now the system just powers up fans and shuts down over and over. DO NOT TRY TO UPDATE THE BIOS USING ASUSUPDATE!! If I hadn't been so lazy and done it with a floppy it'd probably still be running :/

No flaws

Firmware update failed-RMA process broken?

Patriot Pyro 2.5" 60GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) PP60GS25SSDR
Patriot Pyro 2.5" 60GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) PP60GS25SSDR

Pros: Fast while I had it. Tech support was helpful and responsive up until the RMA process.

Cons: Didn't play nice with SMART. Ubuntu Natty Narwhal spammed SMART related errors. Failed firmware update using Patriot's windows firmware updating software.

Overall Review: RMA-ed over a week ago. Emailed for a status update exactly 1 week ago. No response. Baffling but it appears as though they are pretending I sent nothing, or at the very least are pretending I, and my drive, don't exist.
