Yeston GeForce RTX 3050 6GB GDDR6 LP Graphics cards pci express 3.0 video cards Desktop computer PC video gaming graphics card RTX3050 - 6GD6 LP

Pros: Size

Cons: Price No 0 RPM fan mode. It's louder than I thought it would be at idle.

Overall Review: I got this to put in a discarded Optiplex I got from work. It works great. This is currently the best single-slot low-profile gaming GPU that I'm aware of. January 3rd, 2025 Edit: I bought a second one and put it in another Optiplex. These things are great.

I Really Wanted To Like It

Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, DVD - OEM
Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-bit, DVD - OEM

Pros: I updated from Windows 7 Ultimate. -Windows 10 does run faster than 7 -Some things are done very well: The Task Manager is even better than it was in 7. It includes a start-up programs feature that even lists the impact programs have on Windows starting up. Putting that in the task manager makes it more convenient to use than msconfig. There's a tool in settings that shows you how much space different types of files/folders are taking up. It gives you a percentage and also the total size. While not a new concept, my Android phones have always done this, it is a welcome feature on the Windows desktop.

Cons: -The privacy issues that come with Windows 10 made me start wearing a tinfoil hat and become paranoid about my privacy every time I used the OS. It took forever to disable all the Windows 10 spyware settings, edit the group policy, edit the security policy, edit the registry, delete the tracking apps, and edit the hosts file just so that Microsoft will stop tracking everything I do. -The desktop and laptop user experience is hindered by the features and design choices intended for mobile use. All I use those tiles for is putting shortcuts to programs because they took away the ability to pin programs to the Start menu. I tried out some live tiles for a couple of weeks, but there's really no reason to use them because all the stuff I want to do with them I do through a browser anyway. -The Windows app store is useless. I thought the reason apps like these existed was because smart devices were unable to provide a quality user experience. If apps running in the browser were able to do what developers intended, there would be no need for apps. Also, desktop and laptop PCs are able to install desktop versions of programs that are able to interact with the OS in ways that aren't possible through a browser. So why is there a Netflix app? Netflix runs superbly in my browser. Why is there a Windows app store Netflix app that has less features than what can be found in the browser? And why is there a Skype app that's worse than than the normal desktop version? -The computer's main settings are all split up between the stupid Settings app, the Control Panel, and some Microsoft online portal. Some important settings are only exclusively available in one of the three. Some settings aren't able to fully be configured in the Settings app, so you need to go to Control Panel to finish what you're trying to do. Sometimes the Settings app will also make you go to an online Microsoft site to change certain settings, too. -You can't delete Cortana without messing up the OS apparently. I really don't see a need for Cortana if you're not using a tablet or Windows phone.

Overall Review: I really wanted to like Windows 10. I was going to give it about a month before I made a decision on whether to roll back or not. However, after two weeks of intense usage I was fed up. If you have Windows 7, I recommend you don't upgrade. The desktop user experience is excellent in Windows 7, and Windows 10 just seems like a poorly configured version of Windows 7. While there are some definite improvements in Windows 10, the privacy issues, poor interface design for desktops and laptops (non-touch devices), and useless bundled software have made me conclude that Windows 7 is a better OS for me. I became so frustrated with Windows 10 that I installed Linux for the first time in my life. I now dual-boot Windows 7 and Linux Mint. I've been a die-hard Windows fan since about the age of five, and I even liked Vista and I still love 7. At the age of 28, though, Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10 have made me hate Windows. If the software I need (Office and Photoshop) and the games I play were to ever run as well or better on Linux, I'd make the switch entirely.

Almost Excellent

ASUS Nexus 7 FHD Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad-Core 2 GB DDR3 Memory 32 GB Flash 7.0" Touchscreen Tablet PC Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean)

Pros: The size is exactly what I need. I stopped buying physical textbooks because this tablet is big enough for me to read without having to be bothered by tiny text and a small screen. My back got messed up while I was in the Army, so not having to carry around textbooks or a laptop has made my college life much better. The size, weight, and durability of this tablet are perfect for my needs. It's powerful enough to run pretty much any apps you'll want to use, just like almost every other Android non-low-budget device that has come out within the last year or two.

Cons: One of the speakers started going bad after a few months. One year after purchase, that speaker doesn't work anymore. I tried to get it replaced during warranty, but I would have had to send it in to Asus to get repaired. I'm currently a college student, and I can't go without my tablet for a long time. Luckily, I mostly use headphones, and not the speakers. I really would prefer a user-replaceable battery and an SD card slot. The 32GB of storage was somewhat annoying until I paid for Dropbox Pro.

Overall Review: Despite the cons, I would choose this tablet again over any others that are currently out right now.
