Asus G750JZ - DS71
Pros: - Laptop stays cool to the touch as long as the two back vents are open and no objects obstructing the air flow even when playing games like Diablo 3 RoS on highest settings for several hours. - Decent sound quality with built in subwoofer - Onboard amplifier makes a difference when headphones plugged in. (Tested with cheap and expensive headphones) - Nice solid build quality doesn't feel cheap - Nice looking chiclet style backlit keyboard with good response when typing (I type pretty fast about 112wpm) - Nice touch pad with multi-touch gestures (scrolling etc) some gestures desgined for Windows 8 - Fast boot up with SSD like 6 or 7 seconds - More than enough HDD space for all your movies and music or work files. - When playing games never experienced CPU or GPU throttling - Easy access to ram, HDD and SSD for upgrading - Nice beautiful 1080p Matte screen with pretty decent wide viewing angles without too much color distortion - Outer rubberized coating provides a nice grip and feel - Brush aluminum on the inside of the laptop gives a solid feel. - Minimal bloatware
Cons: -Finger-print magnet - Blu-ray player had issues playing till I reinstalled the driver - Weird HDD and SSD partitions the 256GB SSD is split into two 128GB in a 0 raid config. The 1 terabyte harddrive is split to two 500GB partitions.
Overall Review: I"m really happy I purchased this laptop. I did a lot of research on the ASUS G750 and it seemed like the best choice for the Nvidias newest GPU and some solid specs that rival some desktops. Important factor for me was that this laptop stays cool even after hours of gaming. I have built my own desktops before and I was looking for an upgradeable desktop replacement that I could travel with when moving. It's a 17" laptop that's close to 10lbs not something you would want to carry around if you're walking around a lot. They do make a Asus Nomad backpack that's designed specifically for the G750 if you want to lug this beast on your adventures. You're not going to find the same specs on any other laptop at this time. If you're looking for a laptop to rip through some serious gaming , video/graphics editing processing this is where it's at.
