SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5830 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card 100297L
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5830 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card 100297L

Pros: "Best Bang for the Buck" is an oft used term but this is hands down the best card for the $$$ right now. I'm just a casual gamer (FFXI and WOW) and replacing my ancient rig with a new system. I was looking at 5770's and had reservations about this card from reports that the 5830's were quirky when AA was bumped up but the price was too good to pass up. Turns out I made the right choice. This card dropped right into my 10-yr old Antec Sonata case without surgery. The only hitch was it blocked my SATA1 pin which I can't fault newegg, Sapphire or my MSI micro-ATX mobo with the PCI-E 1.0 slot. I just moved my DVD-RW cord to another SATA pin. Once installed, the fan was so quiet at idle that I had to look to make sure it was spinning. After a bit of tweeking the CCC (MAX settings), the games run super smooth, clear and the colors are vivid. My Win7 Gaming Index went from 5.3 to 7.6! The entire gaming experience just 'feels' 1000x better and that's what matters to me.

Cons: No cons yet. Got it from newegg 3 days ago and it runs great. Hope it stays that way.

Overall Review: This is the Xtreme version which isn't mentioned in the decription. I think the sheer size of the card puts off a lot of people. You need at least 11.5 inches of clearance in your case to fit this puppy. If you can fit it then I say get it. Lastly, I read enough horror stories about Sapphire's Customer Service enough to prompt me to get the extended warranty. 15 bucks for peace-of-mind is worth it to me.

Onboard LAN gave out after one week

MSI 760GM-E51 AM3 AMD 760G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
MSI 760GM-E51 AM3 AMD 760G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Nice budget board for the money. Onboard DIP switches make overclocking caveman easy.

Cons: Onboard Network adapter gave out after 1 week which cost time and money. This was a head scratcher because I was getting the proper LED diagnostic signals, connection and activity. However, no internet. Apparently something shorted out. I had to shell out some extra bucks for a new gigabit network card, popped it in and now all is well.

Overall Review: With only one PCI Express x16 slot you'll have to pay attention to the length of your graphics card. If it's more than 9 inches long then it will block the SATA1 connector. My Sapphire Radeon HD5830 Xtreme card covers the SATA1 connector rendering it useless. It's not a big problem since you have 4 other SATA ports but if you're running multiple drives it can be. Finally, ALWAYS take anti-static precautions especially when swapping/installing Mobos. Use a wrist strap or make one out of a piece of wire. I suspect a good number of DOA/BSOD's happen because people neglect this simple yet important step.

Get this!

Corsair CSSD-BRKT2 Dual SSD Mounting Bracket
Corsair CSSD-BRKT2 Dual SSD Mounting Bracket

Pros: Great solution for mounting up to 2x SSD drives into a 3.5-inch internal drive bay. Bracket fits my Samsung 750 EVO SSDs perfectly which are running in RAID 0. It comes with just the exact amount of mounting screws for 2 SSDs plus the bracket (12). No more, no less. Just don't forget to order the SATA III cables to go with your SSDs. Highly recommended.

Cons: Just a minor nitpick. It doesn't come with any instructions but you shouldn't need it since installation should easy to figure out for most people. Reviewers over at other sites have reported that you need to install this upside-down to fit into an iMac and a few other cases. Hope this saves someone some time and headaches.

Works great after 3 full years

Logitech H390 Wired Headset, Stereo Headphones with Noise-Cancelling Microphone, USB, In-Line Controls, PC/Mac/Laptop - Black
Logitech H390 Wired Headset, Stereo Headphones with Noise-Cancelling Microphone, USB, In-Line Controls, PC/Mac/Laptop - Black

Pros: Durable, clear, volume/mute control and long cord.

Cons: none

Overall Review: Exactly 3 years ago I bought a pair of these for myself just to use for Skype. In that time I can't count the number of times I've dropped it on a hardwood floor or rolled over the cord with my chair. I also have a couple of bad habits. I constantly remove the USB plug off by yanking the cord and then sideways instead of straight out because of the way my USB ports are located relative to me. I also tend to play with the cord while chatting by twisting and twirling it. So my headset takes a lot of abuse. After 3 long years my Logitech model# 981-000014 headset is as clear and functional as the day I bought it. I would say that is money well spent. 2 months ago my longtime Skype buddy's bargain-budget single-ear cordless headset gave out so I bought him a pair from Newegg on Black Friday. The difference now in clarity is like night and day. His voice is 10x clearer and I can even pickup background noises which could be a minus so I have to turn down the volume.

Great router!

TP-Link TL-WR1043N 450 Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router
TP-Link TL-WR1043N 450 Mbps Wireless N Gigabit Router

Pros: Very stable - after 1 month of 24/7 use it hasn't dropped WAN yet. Has all the features I could ask for. WAN covers every corner of my 4 bedroom house with stock antennas.

Cons: None yet. Hope this lasts.

Overall Review: First a word about Newegg. This unit arrived extremely fast (rush ordered) and VERY well wrapped with nary a blemish on the plastic wrap. Kudos to the egg! I purposely delayed this review for one month since I've read enough reviews that getting a reliable and stable router seems like a crapshoot. After a month of constant use it turns out I made the right choice. I flashed the latest TP-Link firmware and so far it's been working out although my needs are small with only a wireless printer, a Nexus 7 tablet and one smartphone in the house. If I start having issues then maybe I'll look to Gargoyle or DD-WRT but none so far.

HyperX Blu 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model KHX1600C9D3B1K2/4GX
HyperX Blu 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model KHX1600C9D3B1K2/4GX

Pros: Great ram for the money. I bumped up the clock settings to the rated 1600mhz and it passed the Prime95 torture test for 20 minutes with flying colors. I probably could have overclocked it higher with stability but I'm a light gamer. Five stars for Kingston and five for Newegg shipping.

Cons: nada

Overall Review: I bought this kit as an add-on to match my other 4gb of ram (same brand and model) for my first-built budget rig. If you are starting your own build remember it is better to get the most GB per stick for each channel. As an example for 8GB of memory, it is better to use 2x4GB sticks than to use 4x2GB sticks. I wish I knew this earlier but I'm still satisfied.
