Inexpensive RAID 1 for Media - Bad Documentation

Pros: Inexpensive RAID 0 or 1 box compared to other brands (around 1/3 the price) that look very similar/identical except for decals. Has eSATA and USB 2.0. Has a lot of RAID modes - BIG (one Big spanned Drive), JBOD, RAID 0, RAID 1, BIG + RAID 1 33%, BIG + RAID 1 50%. JBOD and "BIG + RAID 1" modes require a specific kind of eSATA controller with a port multiplier.
Cons: Very confusing setup. Trial and error setup process b/c the dial does not have a 1 cent nob so you know what is selected (BIG, JBOD, RAID 1 etc...). You need to install the Steelvine software from SD website to know what is going on. Restart the box with a pen and scan drives in the software to know what setting mode it is in. When you find the one you want, just wait. It will build the RAID on its own. You will see flashing purple/red lights. When it is done I think they will both be blue. RAID building is slow. 1GB drives in RAID 1, 15mins = 6% Fan seems louder than other brands like everyone says.
Overall Review: Installing the drives is easy and the device feels very solid. I followed advise of others and set the <PwSupFanSpeedLo>095</PwSupFanSpeedLo> in the UserConfig.xml to get rid of the PS fan error in the SteelVine software. I also emailed SD to ask if this is correct. Compared to very similar devices, this one is much more difficult to configure (1.5hrs compared to 10mins for RAID 1 configuration). Newegg reviewers made it much easier! Hopefully this device will work as well and as long as the more expensive ones in its class. I have had that one for ~3 years now.
works, but not well enough for gaming or video

Pros: Gives you an extra monitor. Works fine for static documents.
Cons: Performance on video is poor. Frame rate is too low. Does not work well for gaming or streaming video.
Not enough for a gaming laptop

Pros: Quiet. I don't hear it over my laptop cpu cooler.
Cons: Eats up a USB port. Also doesn't cool my HP dv6t enough when I play games, even ones that are not very graphically intense. Laptop shuts itself off due to high heat on occasion while on the cooler. My left hand still gets too warm for comfort while playing games. To use the port multiplyer you need 2 USB ports next to each other which my laptop doesn't have.
Overall Review: The fan needs to move more air. Not comfortable to use on your lap. I like the look of it and it is quiet, should be fine if you are not gaming.
Worked fine until it broke

Pros: Unit worked fine until it didn't.
Cons: The dial for setup is impossible to use. You have to guess what mode it is in because it is not labeled and there is no indicator to tell you the position it is in. After you finally get it into the mode you want it is fine. Had from 8/27/2009 to 4/29/2010 when it died. Data survived on both disks which is the important part, the unit just died.
Overall Review: I like the idea of the device and I thought it was a good deal when I bought it. I guess you get what you pay for.
Do not count on getting the rebate

Pros: The product works fine.
Cons: You will not get the rebate. I went to the online system and it said: "Due to updated information, a new submission may have been created. Click Back or New Search to view or locate the new record. If you are unable to locate the new record, contact Customer Service using the link below." There is no other record for me. The email didn't get a response and the phone number dumps to a recorded message.
Overall Review: I think a Better Business Bureau complaint is in order... Purchased on 10/14/2008, sent out the rebate within 1 week of the order.
