Over 2 Years and still great!
Pros: I purchased these ram sticks on a combo deal during black-friday week of 2012 and they still run great in 2015. (I got an amazing deal of 53 dollars after taxes (CA. USA). Reliable 2x8gb (16gb) sticks.
Cons: Might be too bulky for some.
Overall Review: I had to tear off one of the metal heat dispensing frames for one of my ram sticks because It was colliding with my new cpu heatsink cooler. Just used a screw driver to pry it at the top area, never touched the PCB with anything besides my gloves. (Ram does not get that hot, Peripheral fans cool enough)
beeps
Pros: usb powered, they work, they were cheap.
Cons: has static and makes a lot of beeping noises,
works
Pros: works reasonable transfer speeds
Cons: As soon as it overheats it slows down it's speed. Good and bad I guess. Reduces chances of damage, but slow.
Worked.
Pros: - works. Recognizes my laptop HDD's and SSD's - Transfered over 400GB and it completed without any hiccups
Cons: - was a little afraid of leaving a laptop HDD in there since it was quite loose and prone to shaking from vibrating. I wasn't afraid that it would unplug, just that there might be a possibility that it would oscillate and damage the platter.
Overall, great laptop for gaming.
Pros: - Best laptop cooling system out there. Google the insides of this thing, 4 heat-pipes and 2 dual exhaust blower fans. Gpu-side blower fan stays off until it needs to be turned on. - Reasonably priced (in comparison to other laptops) Buy it on sale. Got mine for $699 (760 After CA Taxes). - Physical button to ramp up fans to max speed, press it again to turn it off. - Reasonable MSI software to create recovery USB drives / CD drives. Also has another software that allows 3 game modes when plugged. - Screen looks nice. Displays at pretty good angles. I came from the cheap Acer laptop models that sell here on Newegg to this laptop and it was a huge improvement in display color and lighting. - Keyboard is decently made, not loud which is nice.
Cons: - Had to void my warranty to install an M.2 Drive for an SSD upgrade and another stick of Hynix DDR4 8GB RAM (cheaper route to do it myself) - Windows 10 first boot sequence ran 6 times, it wouldn't allow me to decline ALL windows 10 tracking features. It would just restart and re-run the first-time boot sequence.
Overall Review: - Trackpad/Touchpad required adjusting settings. I had to open the settings and tell it to recognize the dual finger gesture to scroll. It was extremely frustrating to use this laptop's touch pad without this feature, I don't know why it is even turned off. Also discovered corner tapping for shortcut functions in this setting. - Note that this laptop isn't the slimmest laptop, it is the normal size of a 15.6 inch laptop, but it is kind of thick. I didnt mind it though. The cooling was more important to me than the portability.
Fans are asleep and turned off until 60C or higher. Feels so wrong...
Pros: You get the performance that you would expect out of a R9 390. Nice 2 slot fit.
Cons: - Simple web browsing causes my GPU to reach 45degrees C with fans spinning at a constant 38%(noise sweet spot for me) capacity with ASUS GPUTweak. - GPU runs really hot in and out of games. - Initially had issues with the fan technology, (see below) I had MSI Afterburner already installed from my previous graphics card which had predefined settings for how fast my GPU fans should spin at specific temperatures. My settings indicated at 60 degrees C, my fans should be spinning roughly about 60% of their maximum speed. But ASUS R9 390, (majority of R9 390 cards) have this sleep mode for their fans that leave their fans off until they are over 60degrees C. So as soon as my GPU hit 60degrees, the fans would burst into life and start spinning really fast. As soon as my GPU reached 59degrees C, they would immediately shut off again. This would repeat multiple times each minute. This was really annoying. This was resolved by installing the ASUS GPUTWEAK software and disabling the 0dB fan technology.
Overall Review: ASUS GPUTweak software seems slightly worse than the MSI Afterburner software. The GPUTweak would repeatedly flicker all the sliders on and off when I opened and mouseovered it. My MSI R9 270 card can idle at 31degrees C with 18% fan speed. My ASUS R9 390 can only idle at 55degrees C at 20% fan speed... I am not making an direct claims about the brands, but rather the graphic card's TDP.
