best of both worlds

SUPERMICRO X9SRA ATX Server Motherboard
SUPERMICRO X9SRA ATX Server Motherboard

Pros: Great mb with Total of 10 sata connectors to build a decent nas solution whether it's all in one zfs with esx or the new Microsoft windows 2012 automated storage tiering. Took me less than 2 hour to put everything together and all rdimm slots works. If you go with ms, you can play games as the mb has 2 pcie x16. It allows perfect consolidation for home lab. Idle power is very impressive as well. I get lower than 58 watts for 10 sata drives (while spinning) with a nvidia geforce 650 ti boost. Haswell may be Better but you are limited to 32gb. This mb can scale lot higher in memory up to 256gb. We all know cpu isn't the bottleneck these days. It's memory and storage esp if testing lots of vms. You also get the nice ecc for copying data do storage.

Cons: Would be nice if supermicro has a better bios similar to asus. My favorite bios is the asus efi.

Overall Review: I like to see 10 sata 6 across the board and perhaps a micro atx mb with same features of this mb.

vt-D for esx-i, xen server rocks

ASRock H87M Pro4 LGA 1150 Intel H87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock H87M Pro4 LGA 1150 Intel H87 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: I wanted a lower powered system that I can test VT-D with and Asrock delivers. I was a big ASUS Fan. However, Asus is catering too much on over clocking and not VT-D. This motherboard is paired with i7-4770-t, 32GB G.skill memory, and radeon 7750 HD, 960 Crucial SSD. The idle is around 20 watts. The peak 100% cpu utilization is at 65 watts. This is so much better solution than the Avoton solution when you need CPU power. Power usuage is very comparable to Avoton.

Cons: oob

Overall Review: would be nice to include Out of band management.

4 monitors simultaneous!

PNY GeForce GTX 650 Ti BOOST 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card VCGGTX650TBQXPB
PNY GeForce GTX 650 Ti BOOST 2GB GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card VCGGTX650TBQXPB

Pros: Running i7-2600 w/ 16gb ram, 3 monitors,1 TV 1920x1200 1) Supports 4 monitors without the need of active display converter! To do the same on a Radeon 7850 you would be require d to purchase 2 additional active display converters. Each active converter is $30 each. 2) Dota 2 runs everything at ultra high rendering. 3) Driver is better than my old Radeon 5770. 4) fast app switching when needed. 5) $119.00 after rebate is a excellent purchase.

Cons: None so far

Overall Review: Was only AMD Radeon Fan. Nvidia convince me to switch and well worth the switch.
