Good Kit

G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL8D-4GBHK
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F3-10600CL8D-4GBHK

Pros: -Took advertised speeds/timings after adjusting in BIOS -Heatspreaders look nice in a predominantly blue MOBO -Excellent bang for buck here, DDR3 may not provide much of a performance increase over DDR2 but they are priced so close now it doesnt matter. -Lower timings than quite a few other kits out there

Cons: None, if youre skeptical on what kit to buy due to people complaining about it not running at advertised speeds go with this one. 10 seconds in the BIOS and it runs great.

Overall Review: Probably going to buy another 4gb. Most Critical Review

Somewhat disappointed

CORSAIR 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model VS2GBKIT400C3
CORSAIR 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model VS2GBKIT400C3

Pros: -Decently priced -Corsair Quality -Good customer support via forum (excellent i must say, restored my faith a little bit in the brand) -Quick newegg processing/shipping

Cons: -Bad Customer support via their toll free number. the "hardware engineer" was really just a glorified CSR with little to no concern over getting my ram to work. This really left a bad taste in my mouth. -Rebate system leaves much to be desired (experienced this on another set i bought for another comp)

Overall Review: Initially called because my computer was having a tough time recognizing the whole 4gb (4x1gb, had 2gb and just bought 2 more). solved this on my own. however i kept freezing upon getting into windows. called tech support for timings/voltages pertaining to my setup. he did not cover any questions that were vital to solving my issue (had to go elsewhere for that). basically he ended up giving me extremely bunk timings that didnt work at all, and then had the audacity to ask if there was anything else he could help me with (or lack thereof). maybe i called too close to the time they get out of work and he was only focused on that. after asking the same questions on the forums RAMGUY and a couple other people gave me timings that worked but advised me it would still be better to run in just 2gb since i had to lower timings to even get it to work. needless to say i feel misinformed on hardware that i figured would be a simple plug and play upgrade. think twice before upgrading your 939

disappointed

ASUS Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card EAH5850 DirectCU TOP/2DIS/1GD5
ASUS Radeon HD 5850 (Cypress Pro) 1GB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Graphics Card EAH5850 DirectCU TOP/2DIS/1GD5

Pros: Excellent build quality Fan is great and really does cool extremely well (quiet as well until you get over 60% speed but thats not really needed) Lots of computing power without consuming a ton of wattage/amps Can achieve 95% of 5870's speed.

Cons: Received a faulty model, black flickering in 3/4 games i played. ASUS tech support quickly said to RMA, i had a hard time believing this due to the fact that a couple games worked fine (Just Cause 2 and Assassin's Creed 2) but other games (SC2, ARMA 2) would get black flickering and hang. I assumed it was a software/driver issue. Tried reseating the card, jumping around to different driver versions, changing PCI-E power cables. No luck. ASUS couldn't offer any suggestions or bios updates or really ANYTHING to help me isolate the cause. Other people have had this issue and end up RMA'ing to only have the issue happen again.

Overall Review: I understand there is always a chance of a DOA, after ordering parts for 10-12 computers over the years I was extremely lucky in not really receiving any bad pieces of hardware apart from an old HIS X800XL where 2 cards had bad fan controllers. I'm rating this a 3 instead of a 1 for that reason. However I'm rating it a 3 due to the fact that ASUS tech support was less than helpful. I don't know if this is a common issue with these cards (seems to be if you google this issue). I was at least expecting to talk to a professional on ASUS' side however he said to send it back with no other suggestions leading me to believe its a common issue. If my next version comes in I will post a 5 egg assuming it works.

Bang for buck

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition - Phenom II X4 Deneb Quad-Core 3.2 GHz Socket AM3 125W Processor - HDZ955FBGIBOX

Pros: Excellent CPU. I've played around on a couple i7s and yes they might be a bit faster in multi-threaded apps but in 95% of gaming and normal usage there is no noticeable difference. OC'ed to 3.7ghz. I have this coupled with a XIGMATEK HDT-S963 and it keeps it at 43-45ºC under full load. This CPU has great performance for the money especially now that more companies are getting onboard and starting to support multiple cores. Works like a champ.

Cons: None really..

Overall Review: Stock cooler looks sufficient but I cant say so for myself. Solid

ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard
ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: -Very nice layout, BIOS has lots of options for OC'ing and can save different profiles -Tons of aesthetically pleasing blue heatsinks on this mobo. No tiny fans=fewer headaches. Runs cool. -SATA ports are in the lower right corner out of the way -It just worked, had to adjust RAM timings but that was expected. Booted up first try and ran like a pro through stress tests. -Great board! Its my 2nd ASUS build over the last few months and I expect to keep going with these boards.

Cons: IDE port is kind of in a weird spot but thats my fault for running old DVD-RW drives. :)

Overall Review: The price was right and I decided on sticking with single card solutions instead of going crossfire. This is a feature filled board from one of the best MOBO manufacturers. Excellent Midsize Cooler

XIGMATEK HDT-S963 92mm Rifle CPU Cooler I5 775 AMD compatible
XIGMATEK HDT-S963 92mm Rifle CPU Cooler I5 775 AMD compatible

Pros: -Great performance for its size -Easy as pie to mount in an AM3 board -Rubber fan mounts work good and did not break like some others have stated (kind of hard to break these) -Keeps my [email protected] around 43-45ºc under 100% load after an hour (I expect this to drop 3-5 more degrees once the grease sets in) -Cleaned the mounting surface then applied a thin layer of Arctic Silver 5 -Didn't block anything on my mobo.

Cons: None really, kind of wished i went with a bigger cooler since i had plenty of room for this one.
