Upgrade from X58
Pros: + Every 8 or so years I make a platform upgrade, and this thing looked BIG and fast so I went for it. + I use my desktop for all kinds of stuff and I want a platform that i will not have to upgrade from for another 8 or so years. + This cpu is Amazing and i think ill love this platform. + With my mobo it is set to 4.0 with no sweat. I have a custom loop so temps are around 23c under hours of running game servers and other work loads.
Cons: - price was a bit more than i wanted to spend, but If i was unwilling to pay it then i would not have gotten it. - Some games and old applications just don't work on this cpu. most applications do work and i have half a dozen other computers to run old games on and such on, but it would have been nice if the cpu ran all applications.
Overall Review: = this is my first AMD cpu since 2002. They have been rubbish for a long time and its refreshing to want to get, and then own and love a cpu not from Intel.
Got this week one of threadripper, and this is my update.
Pros: The number one reason I went with this board over any other was the fact that it has active cooling for its mosfets. The add on card for more M.2 is super nice. Feels sturdy. Looks great. Easy BIOS (or what ever you kids call it these days) flash. Lots of options. Great BIOS features.
Cons: ( my update ) I was having stability issues and via many hour of troubleshooting i found the issue. this board is sensitive to the way you have PCI cards ordered. In fact if you take all your components out ( except VGA) the system is super stable. if you plan on using the PCI slots at all, get ready for a crazy ride of trial and error finding the magic configuration order that will give you stability. needs a BIOS update right out of the box. The only reason I put this as a con is due to the fact that the board is crazy unstable without the BIOS update. and I'm sure with the coming months each iteration of BIOS updates will increase stability and features. The Threadripper platform itself is quite unstable. and although I'm hoping its just the chip-set driver or the need to update the BIOS more, but out of the box and even with all the latest software, games and applications are crashing more than usual. Its not to the point that ill go out and change platforms, but it is annoying. (side note) changing the number of cores active dose not increase stability, which leads me to believe its a chip-set or BIOS problem. The reason this product get a 4 star is because for 1/2 a grand i expect more than this, even if its beading edge and expected to be a bit buggy.
Overall Review: I do Love the system though, with my custom loop cooling and sick case, I do not regret it.
Good for mechanical hot swap people.
Overall Review: A very nice keyboard. I put Novel Keys Sherbet switches in mine. But it will take any cherry style. Lots of RGB options and the frame seems solid.
Amazing Keyboard for the user who wants options and quality
Cons: none that I can think of.
Overall Review: The switches this keyboard comes with are ok, but I right away changed them to Kailh Sherbet switches, and now this thing is amazing. The Hot swappable option is amazing. People can change this keyboard to be for typing, or gaming, or whatever they want. The RGB options are great and easy to use.
Just Great
Pros: easy to use. looks great, lots of space. lots of air flow
Cons: maybe a few more screws would have been a nice cherry on top.
Overall Review: Just Great..
Impressed
Pros: The block is super nice, nicer than my last two BK water blocks. Runs at 27C when idling, and peaks out at 33C under hours of load. Card performs as expected, crushing most applications.
Cons: Warranty registration could use some improvement. (but I'm just picky, its still a fine system)
