Good, Inexpensive board
Pros: Inexpensive, yet has plenty of options. Will hold 4 gig of ram. Video on board. Everything seems to work. Has current drivers with set. Gigabyte support IS outstanding if you are technically competent. Am using Microsoft XP Home.
Cons: None so far.
Overall Review: Must insert memory chips until they click or won't post. Windows will not recognise the hardward until you load the Nvidia drivers, no sound or internet. Gigabyte makes good stuff. New egg delivers, it to less than a day for the order to ship and was here in a couple of days.
Good mother board, bad service from Gigabyte
Pros: All good, first board works, waiting on second build. I built a computer with amd 5000 dual core Thermaltake Tp 430 and 4 gig of ram. Burned in with Sandra for several hours, nothing died.
Cons: Gigabyte slow to answer questions on their website. Phone is on Pacific time. Gigabyte sells power supplies, wanted a cross reference for this board. Could not find one on their site.
Overall Review: Wished I had bought the 780G board, I really like Gigabyte stuff, it's outstanding. I have bought 6 boards and they have been good. (four from new egg)
Not very good experience.
Pros: Seems to work okay for reading and booting. Works well with Vista, Fedora and ubuntu, except for DVD -R
Cons: Will not write to DVD -R
Overall Review: Will write Cds and DVD +R, haven't tried Dual layers or lightscribe. Didn't buy from New Egg, but from local dealer who exchanged for another unit. It don't work either.
8 gig drive cheap
Pros: Cheap, lots of storage. Works with Vista
Cons: none, so far
Final update, I hope.
Pros: When it works, it's good. I found that there are some undocumented settings on this bios, that effect the operation, I found them in the manual of GA-MA-780-S3. The issue with unganged/gang memory is a bios setup. The lockup situation was due to memory timing, because I lowered the memory clock speed to 667 and all was well. I reset the memory clock speed to auto and it recognized my pqi DDR2 800 memory just fine and booted up to the big time, thank the Lord.
Cons: Gigabyte tech support is slow and pretty much useless, but the web site is good and they have alot of drivers, programs and manuals, so with the WWW you should be able to figuire it out. BTW, I downloaded the F4 BIOS and it was of no help for my problem anyway.
Overall Review: Gigabyte makes some mighty fine boards, but I have invaribly run into to some little glitch, that causes me headaches, but I usually learn something in the process so it's not a total loss. Lets see how long it lasts with this 125 watt processor (AMD X4 9750).
Good chip
Pros: Quad core 2.4 megahertz. Beautiful heat sink. Run 37 C most of time.
Cons: Motherboard issues, mainly.
Overall Review: I was surprized at the quality of the heat sink after reading reviews on the egg. This heat sink was sized to cool the processor, by the guys who designed the chips. I don't over clock, so I'll stick with the basics.
