LIAN LI GA-360B-LGA 360mm Water Cooler - Black

Pros: LGA1700 bracket is in the box. The manual also mentions this bracket. Apparently this is the updated version.

Cons: None at this moment. Have not got chance to install into system yet.

Overall Review: So far so good.

Most Critical Review

Novel idea but needs much improvement on GPU cooling

ASRock DESKMINI GTX 1080 Intel Socket LGA1151 Intel B250 Mini / Booksize Barebone System
ASRock DESKMINI GTX 1080 Intel Socket LGA1151 Intel B250 Mini / Booksize Barebone System

Pros: I was excited when Asrock announced this product. As someone move house frequently, I need a mini yet powerful machine for gaming/3d rendering/media editing that can go into a check in luggage once or twice a year. This is a better fit to me than my previous option, a gaming laptop, since most of the time I use a desktop monitor and wireless keyboard so the laptop monitor and keyboard is adding the redundant weight and cost. It takes 2X2.5 disk and 3SSD, which is perfect place for me to keep the few TB of photos from DSLR. Asrock technical supports suggest that the maximum thickness for the 2.5mm slot is 9.5mm. However, with some measurement, I still feel that I can fit 2X15mm drive (5tb from Seagate) into those two slots without a fitting problem (probably it will affect the cooling air flow?) I will try that later.

Cons: Here comes the reason of two star rating - the cooling of GTX1080 MXM. I tested the machine with a few games like battlefield 4 and PUBG with ultra settings at 1080p. The GPU always stabilize at around 92c (197f) with the fan running max speed. From the MSI afterburner data, I don't see much throttling, so performance wise it is alright. However, the noise level is unacceptable. To compare, it is worse than the Alienware 15R3 with 1070. Which is notorious for the very noisy fan (above 50dB as some review measuredt). I tried to playground with the fan strategy but realize that the BIOS consider any temperature above 80c to be critical and will force the fan to max out when above 80c. So pretty much nothing I can do to bring down the noise level without altering the hardware and I am also risking the GPU life since it's always running above "critical". This performance is not what I would expect to get from a customized cooling system since the temperature and noise should be the priority issues to tackle during the design. I thought Asrock should have done sufficient test before launching the new product into the market. I have emailed Asrock tech support to find out if the performance I got is normal or faulty. Hopefully it is a faulty unit otherwise with the NON RETURN ONLY EXCHANGE POLICY, I am stuck with this machine and has to considering altering the hardware to mitigate the problem.

Overall Review: With the above issue, I don't think it is a good option to go for if you don't want to end up with doing some DIY. The 1070 seems to be a better balance of performance, price point and smaller power brick. However, it is unknown if it will be available in the market soon.
