Excellent Motherboard for FreeNAS

SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SLM-F-O uATX Server Motherboard LGA 1150 Intel C224 DDR3 1600
SUPERMICRO MBD-X10SLM-F-O uATX Server Motherboard LGA 1150 Intel C224 DDR3 1600

Pros: To those looking for memory that works on this motherboard, I used Crucial CT2KIT102472BD160B and have had no issues. IPMI works flawlessly and dual NICs are great for teaming.

Cons: Using IPMI to upgrade BIOS costs money. You can upgrade the BIOS without using IPMI though.

Overall Review: USB port on motherboard is extremely convenient for use with FreeNAS since it boots using a USB drive and requires no hard drive. I am using this board with a Xeon E3-1230V3 to power a 20-drive FreeNAS system in a Norco RPC-4220 case. IPMI eliminates the need for a monitor, keyboard and mouse.

Next best thing to having your house wired for ethernet

SCREENBEAM ECB6200K02 MoCA 2.0 Network Adapter - 2 pack
SCREENBEAM ECB6200K02 MoCA 2.0 Network Adapter - 2 pack

Pros: -Able to run blu-rays throughout the house using wired network instead of relying on wireless. -Easy to setup

Cons: -None

Overall Review: Make sure you aren't using old MoCA v1.0 adapters (Motorola NIM100). These will not work with them connected. It took me awhile to find out why the Actiontec adapters would not work. Disconnected all NIM100's and they connected. Have been rock solid since.
