Good Cable

Nippon Labs 1.5ft SATA3L-1.5FT-BU 1.5 ft. (1.5 ft.) 6.0Gbit/s SATA-III Cable w/Locking Latch Blue 1.5 feet- OEM

Pros: Not too stiff, good latch,

Cons: none

Overall Review: Bought these cables to replace another brand purchased from Newegg where one cable out of 4 purchased failed within one week (wrote review on that one too). Very happy with these cables, especially the latch, which works much better than the failed brand. Will buy this cable again.

Disappointed

Silicon Power 128GB Blaze B05 USB 3.0 Flash Drive (SP128GBUF3B05V1K)
Silicon Power 128GB Blaze B05 USB 3.0 Flash Drive (SP128GBUF3B05V1K)

Pros: Really no pros with this item, except perhaps for its black color. I purchased this item with one of the Newegg specials. Over the years, I have purchased many Newegg specials with great results, fast shipping, great prices, and items that proved themselves to be very good buys. I had expected much the same from this Silicon Power 128GB Blaze flash drive, but this one did not make the cut of Newegg's usual very high standards. (I had written a previous review on this item, at the time feeling a bit of anger, so I am sure that Newegg will not post that review, please). I am trying to be as objective as I can and simply state why this item is a total failure. I understand that many vendors to Newegg purchase much of their merchandise from China; I find that this item's failure is just another example of the type of low quality that so often we find ourselves with China manufactured items; the build quality is not there and the performance quality often lacks also. I am sure that there probably are many of these same flash drives that are working for their buyers as expected, but like anything mass produced, there always are defective product, as every single item is not inspected or checked. I happened to receive one of the defects.

Cons: - very slow to copy files -- note inserted into a USB 3.0 port - overheats, gets quite hot to touch - the pushout slide is very difficult to work, takes way too much effort to slide out; then when attempting to slice back into the case, again way too much effort, and the slide does not want to move at all, the only acceptable result so that it may be used is to have to leave the USB connector slid out with no attempts to return it back inside its case; once back inside the case, it may not ever come out again. - overall build quality poor, the case is weak and flimsy with little strength; certainly with hard pushing on the slide to get the connector out and then again to get it back inside will eventually damage or break the case

Overall Review: - I cannot recommend this product to anyone, unless they are prepared for the same results as I received; as stated earlier, I am sure that not all of this product suffers from the ills that the flash drive I received does, that there probably are many better performing drives, but how can you be sure you will get a good one? - as much as I would love to return this item to Newegg (I am sure that they would make things right), I carelessly destroyed all the packaging. The flash drive will go on the shelf and cannot be used for general multiple copy/move tasks; instead if it will copy several GB of photos and music, it simply will be used as backup storage

Very Nice Case

TOPOWER TP-6205BB-500 Black SGCC 0.5mm ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply
TOPOWER TP-6205BB-500 Black SGCC 0.5mm ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply

Pros: Nicely constructed case for the money -- no sharp edges internally --- very good looking --- plenty of room for multiple drives --- quiet power supply

Cons: None

Overall Review: This case is very attractive, plenty of room for any size motherboard, multiple drive installations, easy installations. Am very pleased with the case, which was used to install a motherboard and CPU and SDRAM that had been purchased a couple years ago and never used. I have no complaints about this case and would buy another one if I needed it.

Bad Cables

Rosewill RCA-RU-10-SA3-90-RD SATA Cable 90 Degree Right Angle SATA III 6.0 Gbps, SATA Cable 12 Inches, SATA 3 Cable - 12 Inches, Red
Rosewill RCA-RU-10-SA3-90-RD SATA Cable 90 Degree Right Angle SATA III 6.0 Gbps, SATA Cable 12 Inches, SATA 3 Cable - 12 Inches, Red

Pros: One of two installed cables failed in less than 30 days. Failure was confirmed by installing another manufacturer's SATA cable on the boot drive and the computer resumed normal operation. The defective cable was then placed on drive two (which was working properly) and the drive was no longer seen nor could it be accessed. Replacing the originally installed cable made the drive fully functional.

Cons: Poorly constructed cables, even with the latch (which does not seat correctly) the cables back off the port. One of two cables has continued to work properly, but one cable failed in very little time.

Be Wary of these Recertified Drives

WD WDBACG0020HCH 2TB My Book Live Personal Cloud Storage
WD WDBACG0020HCH 2TB My Book Live Personal Cloud Storage

Pros: First off, I love Newegg and have purchased often from them and will continue to do so. This review is NOT about Newegg, because NEWEGG DOES EVERYTHING RIGHT! I ordered the drive and it was here in a day, free shipping, taking a chance on a recertified drive.

Cons: The recertification by Western Digital claims that the drive has been checked and tested by WD and it performs as new. However, this is not so, and it was verified by their tech support. The drive had been used by a prior owner and was still registered to that owner, who had configured it with secret passwording. Using the pin to reset the drive to default factory settings, as WD claims did not work, the drive still maintained its prior user settings. Western Digital tech support for the MyBookLive drives (a specific service) is great. I was able to reach them in short order and the technicial took me through all the same setup attempts that I had previously already tried --- the network saw the drive fine, but it had a 169.254.xxx.xxx IP address that could not be accessed regardless of the attempts. This address should have been cleared by resetting the drive to factory defaults. The dashboard of this drive could not access, any attempt yielding an HTTP: 403 FORBIDDEN result that could not in any way be bypassed or eliminated. Western Digital was understanding of this and the drive is going to be replaced by WD at no expense to me. I applaud WD for their service and acknowledgement that a recertified drive, was not really recertified. By the way, the cosmetic condition of this drive could not be distinguished from a brand new one (I have a brand new one that I have been using for 4 months). Cosmetics were perfect, it looked brand new.

Overall Review: Fortunately the time I spent, (being a network trained tech myself, and familiar on network installations of all kinds as I own a small computer sales/services business) was not excessive for attempts to install this drive, I knew immediately what the problem and issues with it were. Western Digital understood this once I had a brief conversation with the tech support guy and we proceeded, for his benefit to recheck out the drive. Ultimately he came to the same conclusion that I had, and respectfully is replacing this drive. I have purchased many WD drives and prefer them in my business over the other brands, I have had few problems with any of them and replacement of a faulty drive is seldom needed, but WD has always corrected and replaced anything determined by their tech support to be defective. I will continue to buy WD products.
