Good Product, good update capability

GARMIN nüvi 765T 4.3" GPS Navigation with Lane Assist
GARMIN nüvi 765T 4.3" GPS Navigation with Lane Assist

Pros: Traffic (when available in metro areas), seems to learn your habits as you drive and takes it into account for route selection as time goes on. Capability of adding custom POI. Capability of having locations sent from Google Maps directly to the Garmin (address, coordinates you name it). Blue tooth works. Lots of add-ons can be added from custom POI from 3rd party vendors to new icons.

Cons: Every once in a while it decides to take an odd route but it would still get you from point A to point B. If you really know you want to go a particular way and you want to use the GPS for looking at your speed, speed limits and such, just set a via waypoint along the route you want to take and there is no trouble. Blue tooth is a little light like when talking on speaker phone but it is audible. The multiple stop routing works well to a point. When you reach the destination it tells you to make a U-turn instead of saying you reached the location. It's livable and works but could have been better. The standard Traffic is not everywhere or in all metro areas but this is not Garmin's fault, that is Navtec's traffic service. But Navtec can always add service and the receiver will pick it up, so no biggie.

Overall Review: This Garmin definitely works very well and does all I was expecting it to do. I can travel hit POI along my current route and find anything I want instead of looking for road signs. The transfer of POI from Google maps to the Garmin is a plus because you can plan out where you want to go before hand and make sure the address and location are correct. Easy folders to sort the custom POI can be created to group the custom POI the way you want.

Firmware Update

Seagate ST3640323AS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Seagate ST3640323AS 640GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Nice speed, SATA and 32MB cache.

Cons: Firmware needs to be updated on almost all Seagate's ES.2, 7200.11 and Diamondmax 22 when you first get the drive or you will be one of the high failure rate victims of these drives. Due to this I'm giving it 1 egg as this has been an issue for a long time and only now is being fixed.

Overall Review: See Seagates Knowledge Base 207931 for the firmware upgrades. Press release was done 1/23/2009 concerning this issue. They are offering a free upgrade of the firmware at this time.

Decent card

PNY GeForce 9500 GT 1GB DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card VCG951024GXEB

Pros: Good graphics for a budget card. Fan is quiet (when it doesn't have a groaning sound on startup from standby).

Cons: Bearing groaning sound on spin up from stop (after coming back from being in standby) on the cheap little fan on the card. Lubricated the fan and seems to have worked its groaning out. Contacted customer support from PNY and have a ticket in since I already sent the mail in rebate in before the problem showed itself. But hesitant to send it back just for a fan issue that if I could get the fan I could replace myself as it's like a $5 part when it will cost me $5 to ship to them to fix. (however PNY does not warranty the card if you remove the fan but they were ok with me lubricating it)

Overall Review: Windows 7 experience for graphics was 4.6 and gaming graphics was 5.6. Pretty much where I expected a x500 NVidia card. For those complaining about drivers that come with the cd... ALWAYS go to the Chipset manufacturer's website (in this case NVidia) to get the latest drivers after loading with the generic VGA drivers. for the 7, 8 or 9 series of NVidia chipsets, they follow in line with 7500 = 8500 = 9500 with minor improvements in design, process and performance with each succeeding generation. So an 8600 would probably perform just as well as a 9500 and would not see a notable increase until 9800 cards in that situation.

Awesome

EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card 512-P3-N879-AR

Pros: I've seen a vast improvement in graphics cards and this card runs quiet, cool and fast. Even while running COD5 - World at War at max settings for a 1680x1050 22" monitor running the card at the monitors full resolution for 5 hours straight, the temp of this card barely reaches 40°C and the fan runs at minimum speed. Power wise since it is running cool and the fan is at minimum the power draw is very light since the power is scaled back when not in use especially with the 55nm die.

Cons: - I had an issue where I would freeze due to a graphics card problem. (checkered pattern on screen, computer froze). I re-installed the drivers from NVidia (already had the latest version when I first installed it from NVidia) and have not had the problem since even after countless hours of playing.

Overall Review: - A word of note when using with Microsoft XP. You will need to make sure that you are installing the version that has Service Pack 2 already included with the install/boot cd. (If you don't have one with them combined on the same cd, look into slip-streaming the XP with SP2 and making your own bootable cd) If you don't get the combined bootable CD the install may not work for you and error out while loading drivers to begin XP installation. (Due to the technology of the newer graphics cards the older version OS doesn't recognize the newer cards.)
