Comes with different cable than advertized, Seasonic refused to replace cable
Pros: For what I can gather, the power supply itself seems to a quality supply. Good reviews from Xbit and Johnny Guru. 80 Plus Gold. Bought for a HP Slimline case and fits loosely in case. Not all screws align.
Cons: I read reviews of this power supply at Xbit as well as checked out specs at Seasonic's website (google "SS-300/350M1U Brown Box Active PFC" for wire configuration) before purchasing this item. All indications were that I would receive a modular cables which have 4 SATA power connectors. I have three devices that use SATA power connectors so this was ideal. I ordered the item (not from newegg). When I opened the box, the cable included contained only two SATA power connectors. The other two SATA connectors were replaced with a PCIe 6 pin power connector. I contacted Seasonic to get the correct cable. What has resulted has been a customer service nightmare. I was put in contact with Kevin H** via email. I wrote that i had received the wrong cable and kindly asked for the correct cable to be sent. Here is how Kevin responded: ME: The modular cables that came with the PSU were incorrect. The cable i got had only two serial ATA power connectors, along with 1 PCI-6 power connector. But the corrected cable should have come with 4 serial ATA power connectors and no PCI-6 power connector. KEVIN EMAIL #1: I was think did you plug the correct connectors? ME :The problem isn't that the provided cable isn't working. The problem is that the cable is different from the one that should have been included. KEVIN EMAIL #2: Please send me a picture of what cable you’ve received. KEVIN EMAIL #3: Also please forward me a copy of the original invoice to verify your purchase. ME: I send him both items KEVIN EMAIL #4: Thanks for your prompt response. Please take a picture of the part# on the modular cable for me. ME: Why didn't you ask me this in the first place. I send him another picture with part # focused in it. KEVIN EMAIL #5: I was told that’s one of our new standard cable which has replaced the old one. **No other explanation** ME: Does this mean that the cable that i need, WUM4421M02AW will not be sent? I need the 4 SATA power connectors, not the newer cable. The specs on your website clearly say that the PSU comes with 4 SATA cables. KEVIN EMAIL #6: I was told that you received a newer cable ME: you guys need to update the info on your website because it is wrong that customers to receive something that is different than described. KEVIN EMAIL #7: I personally would suggest the newer cable, if there is nothing we wouldn’t just replaced it. continued
Overall Review: ME: I have 3 SATA devices an SSD, a hard drive, and an optical drive, therefore I need more than two SATA power connectors provided. That is why I bought the Seasonic power supply, because it was advertised has having 4 SATA connectors. If I can't power all of my components, then the power supply is useless for me. instead of trying to convince me why I should settle for something different than what I paid for, I would talk to who ever is in charge at Seasonic RMAs, explain that Seasonic is at fault here and get this resolved so that first, the customer gets the cable that was advertized i.e promised to him, and two let Seasonic marketing know that future products need to specify the correct cable that is actually included so as this type of issue doesn't arise in the future KEVIN EMAIL #8: I was told all current psu shipped with newer cable to vendor, but we are unable to control that vendor would ship new or old due to psu is in their warehouse. ME: Update you're own site and stop pushing blame to others. It is Seasonic's responsibility to let customers and vendors know what are the contents. I can't magically guess that you guys changed the cable. You're responses and service, and the lack of taking any responsibility on this issue is completely insulting. CONCLUSION: They changed the cable, but don't state anywhere that this is the case. They refuse to take any responsibility on the issue. Its not their fault. Its the vendors fault. Its the customer's fault for expecting exactly what was advertised in reviews and their own spec sheets. Since the cable works, it can't be RMA'd RECOMMENDATION: Stay away from this power supply, stay away from Seasonic customer service. If you have more than two devices that need SATA power connectors this power supply cannot support them anymore.
