Great MOBO
Pros: Unit comes in packaging that reflects the company is proud of the product they sell. BIOS is the best I've come across in flexibility, ease of use and provides all the features you'd expect of a high-end board. Finally, for the past week I've been throwing every kind of stress test and benchmark at this MOBO and have yet to be disappointed. In particular, sustained high IO and CPU loads which have broken every other board I've tried seems to do quite well on this one.
Cons: On assembly, be very careful to use a magnetic screwdriver and don't drop the screws or you will have a challenge either fishing out the screw from under the cover or doing disassembly.
Overall Review: In general I'm very pleased with this product though I would not recommend for a first build due to cost and the temptation to push performance beyond what is good for the product. Also there are assembly issues which a newbie might have a problem - see above. Put a compact water cooler on a high end CPU and you will not be disappointed.
Great disks
Pros: Economical, cost effective storage, very reasonable performance, large capacity with hefty cache and quiet.
Cons: None I can think of.
Overall Review: Have been pounding on these drives for over a solid week doing large file transfers and high amount of traffic with updates without a single hiccup. Highly recommend plus Newegg has these at a killer price. Compare to other drives of the same capacity and read some of their reviews to get comfortable but you'll end back on this product page.
Great home storage
Pros: Setup is easy, fast, with no need for detailed technical references. Adding decent sized disks, creating a volume and downloading libraries for the household to share was also very easy to do. Web interface was intuitive and there was ample information on the internet from the manufacturer on setups for unique applications.
Cons: Petty stuff like scratches on the finish and somewhat slow in transferring large file structures
Overall Review: You can't beat this rig for the money. If you have the skill and the time to build something from scratch, it will be much faster but nowhere near as economical as this little box. Also, why would you need all that horsepower for typical home usage like streaming music, playing movies, photo storage, etc. A friend of mine also had one of these and complained bitterly about the performance but a quick sniff of his network determined the problem was with an older router. After upgrading, he was shocked at the tremendous improvement. I usually don't recommend products online but this is clearly deserving of praise.
Boost performance
Pros: Kingston has always made reliable memory sticks and in this case, it also makes an exceptional SSD product. Runs cool, easy to install, radically increases the performance of your system. Booting used to give me enough time to go get coffee - by the time I got back it was almost ready to give me a login. Now I can't even get out of my chair before it's ready to go. Shutdown is a few seconds and the system response is crisp without noticeable lag. This is clearly the most cost-effective way to make computing enjoyable again.
Cons: There is a tradeoff between capacity and $$. I had to settle for 64G which is not bad but I would have loved to get my software build environments to run local.
Overall Review: SSD has come a long way and will soon replace hard disk media in applications where the ratio of reads over writes is high. Capacities are increasing and costs are dropping like a rock.
Hot but good card
Pros: High resolution and frame rate capability, looks great and has solid tools for boosting performance. Comes with all adapters you'd need for any interface and setup is a breeze. With minor tweaks to the supplied performance enhancing tools, you can boost framerate above 60fps and run at this level for prolonged periods with only moderate heat increase.
Cons: Unfortunately the card runs hot even with a well vented chassis (average of 41C). You should verify that the card will fit and not interfere with other elements of your motherboard such as SATA connectors, chips or heatsinks prior to purchase (long card).
Overall Review: I don't play a lot of games but this is a great card for those who like to tinker with GPU horsepower to assist general matrix computation. It beats buying a $1K+ CPU. See the various offerings from OSF archives on making your graphics card work harder for you.
Wireless-N
Pros: Incredibly easy setup tools, runs cool and fairly quick. Documentation wasn't followed - it's that easy. Price is also reasonable. Unit has not locked up once per other reviews and I've been running non-stop using several utilities to service my remote arrays.
Cons: Not as fast as expected in comparison to my old tried-and-true G network. Range was similar to my old hardware but house construction may have something to do with it.
Overall Review: If you spill coffee in your G router then this is the ideal replacement. Slight improvement in speed but similar range and the price is right. I'd hold off replacing good hardware for the dream of range and speed on the over-hyped N standard.
