What a bargain!

Sunbeam CR-CCTF 120 mm Core-Contact Freezer CPU Cooler, free TX-2 Thermal Paste Included Inside
Sunbeam CR-CCTF 120 mm Core-Contact Freezer CPU Cooler, free TX-2 Thermal Paste Included Inside

Pros: -Very effective! Dropped my temps 20+ degrees on my AMD FX 8150 -VERY inexpensive for the difference it makes! -The little deflection that the fins make at the end really cools off my passive heatsinks quite well... I was considering a chipset fan, but it's no longer necessary! -You can install it without removing your motherboard (At least, for an AM3 system) but if you have a top-mounted PSU it's gonna get in the way of your hands.

Cons: A little hard to clip into an AM3 socket! I was scared I was going to break something. At first glance, the clamp arms look too short! It took several attempts to fight the recoil and clamp it in. The fan blocks my 4th RAM slot. You could move the fan up a bit but then it isn't contacting the heatsink with its insulated rubber pads. I don't have a 4th RAM stick so it isn't an issue for me.

Overall Review: The stock cooler on my stock AMD FX 8150 was letting my CPU reach it's max operating temp (61 degrees) at a 50% load. With this cooler, it reaches 44 degrees at MAX load after several hours. Definitely worth the $30 bucks! I'd stock up on these if I were building more computers!

Awesomesauce! But beware the cooler...

AMD FX-8150 - FX-Series Zambezi 8-Core 3.6 GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Desktop Processor - FD8150FRGUBOX

Pros: -8 FAST Cores!!! BOINC's like a champ! -Price -unlocked (as if you need to overclock it... I've kept it at stock) -nice tin box

Cons: STOCK COOLER FROM HELL Stay AWAY from the stock cooler. At first attempt, I took a leap of faith and installed it with the pre-applied thermal paste and my temps were in the 50's at idle. Took it off and the paste turned out to be dried out and gummy around the edges, it barely had spread at all. Cleaned and re-applied my own MX-2 thermal paste, but the cooler can't handle the heat. Still reached it's max operating temp under a less-than 50% load. Also, it's really loud. I went and purchased this simple cooler: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835207004 ...and my temps dropped from 62 degrees at 50% load, to 44 degrees at 100% load. Woot! (FYI- the maximum stated operating temp is 61 degrees)

Overall Review: The processor is perfect- the cooling is not. I'd think that a $270 processor would come with a cooler that would at least outperform a $30 cooler, let alone keep the processor within it's own operating limits. Loses an egg for that!

Awesome!

AMD Phenom II X4 945 - Phenom II X4 Deneb Quad-Core 3.0 GHz Socket AM3 95W Desktop Processor - HDX945WFGMBOX

Pros: Overclockable, reliable, cool, fast! Uses under 100 Watts!

Cons: Absolutely no complaints!

Overall Review: I've overclocked this processor to run this at 3.3GHz, at stock voltage. No crashes whatsoever, and I've had it 10 months now. I have it running BOINC 24/7 whenever I'm not using my desktop.

How?!?!

ePOWER EP-450CD 450 W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Modular Modular Juice Box- Dedicated Graphic Card and CPU power Supply

Pros: Extremely cheap! I was expecting something with ugly cabling that was as loud as a locomotive, but this thing has sleeved cables and is as quiet as a hard drive! I'm thoroughly impressed and am buying a second one.

Cons: The cables are a bit short. if you want to install the PSU in the lower end of a larger case you might need to get some extra cabling. The only real issue: 2 of the 4 PCI express cables are too wide around the edges to be placed two-across on my gtx 470. when I get a second 470 for SLI I ill probably have to invest on another cable, or on a 470 with a slight gap between the power inputs.

Overall Review: Seriously... $20? How??? Did someone hijack a cargo truck? It's not as clear in the pics but the front of the unit with the sticking-out flap of plastic is an air intake with two additional fans, and there is a blue LED indicating power on.

Fantastic card

ZOTAC GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) 1280MB GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 SLI Support Video Card ZT-40201-10P

Pros: Fast! Incredibly fast! You can't throw ANYTHING at this card to slow it down. Runs stereoscopic 3D incredibly well. This card has been very reliable, no problems in the 4 months I've had it. And it's really very quiet under normal use. When the GPU is maxed out and the fan is on auto, (runs fan at~70% of full speed when on auto) you can notice the fan but it doesn't overpower the rest of my (very quiet) system.

Cons: It's pretty hot, when I leave this card folding proteins all night I have to crack a window. The rebate took almost 4 months. I've heard lots of people have had rebate issues. Make sure you don't use a PO address, and follow the instructions very closely!

Overall Review: I've put very heavy use into this card. I fold proteins using GPUgrid 24/7 when I'm not using my computer for games, and this card folds like a champ! It takes this card ~7 hours to crunch through a file that takes my 9800gt over 24hrs. I've never had a corrupt file from it.
