Actually..DO believe the hype

SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC256D/AM 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Desktop Upgrade Kit
SAMSUNG 830 Series MZ-7PC256D/AM 2.5" 256GB SATA III MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) Desktop Upgrade Kit

Pros: Price, when under 350 SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEED Not that I really care, but the casing is gorgeous. Free Batman, Free Norton Ghost 15 Full Version, Samsung SSD Magician as well. Also, Newegg even credited me the difference when they dropped the price during a sale a few days after I bought it. Props to Newegg on that one.

Cons: None. None at all.

Overall Review: Yeah. DO believe the hype. I came back to get another one to run in RAID 0, and saw this drive sitting at 4 stars. That's just an injustice. I have 4 SSDs, spanning 3 brands. Intel, OCZ and now the Samsung 830. This drive is putting up better ATTO and Crystal Diskmark scores that 2 OCZ vertex 2's in RAID 0. Sequential Read in Crystal DiskMark is 529 MB/sec and 417 MB/sec on the write. Sorry the below reviewer's Batman wouldn't download. Mine did, and it played like a champ on that drive, as does running 4-5 servers as VM's handling real like 300 - 400 MB/sec read/write performance. And I'm not sure about the firmware thing. Mine is running at advertised speed, and was unaware of any known issues with this drive that required update on arrival. So, if you want a drive that meets advertised specs, you can believe the hype. Samsung makes bold speed claims, and the meets and exceeds those. I don't post the ATTO scores, those were even better than diskmark.

Coasting on OCZ reputation

OCZ Diesel 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive OCZUSBDSL16G
OCZ Diesel 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive OCZUSBDSL16G

Pros: Nicely Constructed, Physically Small

Cons: Too slow for a so-called performance drive, no leash. Price seems good at first until you factor in the lackluster performance.

Overall Review: Real world performance seemed lacking so I tested up against 3 other drives with multiple benchmarking tools, this drive got it's whooped by the Patriot Xporter XT 16GB, the Corsair Voyager 16GB, and a Kingston Datatraveler 4GB.

Impressive

Seagate Momentus XT ST95005620AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s with NCQ 2.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive
Seagate Momentus XT ST95005620AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s with NCQ 2.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cost and speed

Cons: A lot of reviews on here talk about drive failures, which makes me nervous.

Overall Review: I was able to test this against another momentus drive with a 16mb cache. The results blew me away. Original boot time from end of POST to Windows 7 desktop with all startup items loaded: 1:31 Momentus XT with same software load: 54 seconds (And I hear it gets better). ATTO benchmark results are more than doubled in almost every category. Everything higher than an 8MB write was greater than 90MB per second.

OCZ Diesel 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive OCZUSBDSL16G
OCZ Diesel 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive OCZUSBDSL16G

Pros: None. The weakest product I've gotten from Newegg.

Cons: Within days the drives capacity seems to have dropped to 12GB, and won't format. Write speed is 2.5 MB/sec. What a joke.

Overall Review: This thing is pathetic. Don't waste your money. OCZ support forums are loaded with people complaining about these. They're apparently known for poor speed, losing data and just being flaky. I put in an RMA for this, but I'm not even going to spend the money to send it back, because I don't want another one. I'll just consider myself mugged on this one. Lesson learned.

All Around Good Buy

Western Digital Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive
Western Digital Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Fast, nice to have 32MB cache. Is really a 5 egg rating if i could be sure the extra noise this drive makes comes from where i mounted in my tower.

Cons: The only con I have for this is that it's a bit louder than my other 500GB WD SATA drives. It may also be that it's mounted higher in my tower as well tho and directly to the case chasis, unlike my other drives which are lower in plastic brackets. Makes me thing the metal in the case is resonating a bit with drive activity.

Overall Review: Surprisingly fast. Data xfer from one partition to another on the drive is 5-7 MB faster per second than my 500GB WD caviar (SE16's with 16MB cache) drives.
