Great receiver for the price
Pros: This receiver is loaded with features, and it isn't too difficult to navigate around them to set it all up (but see below). It has more inputs than 99.9% of people will ever need, and you can reassign the inputs so that if your device doesn't exactly match one of the inputs you can use the video on one input and audio on a different one. This unit also does upscaling, so you can hook up analog devices (vcr, wii, etc) and have the video go over the hdmi cable to the TV. The smartphone remote app works very well. My hacked nook tablet with the yamaha app makes for a great remote. There's also an iphone app, which I haven't tested.
Cons: These are nitpicks which don't detract from my use of the receiver. The included remote has lots of tiny little buttons that all look the same which makes it difficult to use. I don't really care because of the android app. The OSD looks fantastic... if this was 1995. However it works and is reasonably easy to manouver around, that's what is most important. The upscaling only works for low resolution interlaced input, For example, the wii set to 480p does not work. This fact is neatly hidden in the manual, took me a while to figure out why I got sound out of the wii but no picture. If the analog input can't be upscaled it can be fed to the TV through component output.
