Rosewill 4U Server Chassis Rackmount Case | 8 x 3.5" HDD Bays + 3 x 5.25" Devices | E-ATX Compatible | 5 x Front 120mm Fans | 2 x Rear 80mm Fans | 2 x USB 3.0 | Front Panel Lock | Silver/Black - RSV-L4000U

Pros: -Easy enough to build in. -A fair amount of bays for storage -Fans are surprisingly quiet for always on

Cons: -Not well documented online at all. How tall of a cooler can you use? Who knows! -Can you use any ole rail? Nope* Well, yeah, if you dont mind an offset on your rack U alignment. -Can you order rails? If they're ever in stock. -Molex powered fans: Dont get me wrong, I've been modding computers since the Tandy 1000 so I don't believe molex connectors will immediately end civilization as we know it. You have to be careful to plug them in holding the wires behind the plastic connector. Magic from the dark ages lol. If you're using an OS that can do fan control, then you may want to swap them out. For me, Truenas Scale seems to always be on anyway so no loss here.

Overall Review: There's not a lot of info from Rosewill about this case and what you can fit in it. You would think, oh well it's a 4u and is 4 x 1.75 tall. Duh. Except the motherboard has a raised tray of unknown height. People are asking if the RSV-SATA-Cage-34 hotswap bays from rosewill work in various cases and with various results. I had two that had been in my Thor case this server was coming from. With gentle yet firm pressure they will slide in, or rather squeeze. See https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjC8xfJ I also quickly test fit an AM4 board with a Phantom Spirit Evo 120 which is a 157mm tall cooler and it fit. I'm kicking myself for not grabbing a photo for folks. Of course, the Newegg site wont accept my photos that are set within parameters for upload. Over all I'm happy with this case, it's good to finally have some of that enterprise gear in a case thats designed to force air over passive heat sinks. I'm also glad I have time to wait for stock of the rails before it needs to go into my rack in the room we're building for all the home nerd stuff.

O.K. for a while...

Patriot 16GB Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) Flash Card Model PSF16GSDHC6
Patriot 16GB Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) Flash Card Model PSF16GSDHC6

Pros: 16gig class 6, inexpensive

Cons: Read/Write lock is so loose, most devices flip it to locked when being inserted. After about a year, of use my Nikon DSLR gives CHA errors, this card only. Other SDHC cards are fine.

Overall Review: You can tape the lock, as I did so it stays on rw, but it's a kludge. There are other cars that work fine.

GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB GDDR5X PCI Express 3.0 x16 ATX Graphics Card GV-N108TGAMING OC-11GD

Pros: I was able to play 20 minutes of amazing gameplay before this card started locking up. It looked great.

Cons: This thing killed itself. I suspect heat since when I pulled it out of the machine I felt as if I'd burn myself.

Overall Review: Lets hope the RMA replacement fairs better.

Seagate BarraCuda 7200.10 ST3250820AS 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive (Perpendicular Recording) Bare Drive

Pros: Silent and Fast

Cons: Died in 4 mos of owning, less then 10-12 uses of the machine it was in. Ran super hot, as in I burned my fingers when I pulled it when discovered it had died.

Overall Review: May have been a bad drive, RMA through Seagate was simple enough, but frustrating that a drive that barely got used died so quickly. Will not stray from WD again. Have yet to install the returned drive as I'm weary of using as a system drive now.
