Good Value
Pros: Inexpensive. Sturdy. Hinge plastic is thicker than on other brands. Easy to stack or stand on edge. Padded inside. Snug fit.
Cons: I personally don't like the blank label that comes attached to these but they are fairly easy to peel off.
Overall Review: I bought a couple from another manufacturer only to find that they had rounded corners and edges and didn't stack or stand up on end very well
May As Well Call It DOA...
Pros: Ummm.... can be sent back under warranty. Thank you Newegg replacement policy and the easy system they have for accommodating returns.
Cons: My example was not reliable and failed within minutes of installation. It lasted long enough to be set up in Windows 7. As soon as I tried to copy data onto it, it failed and is no longer recognized by Win 7 or by my computer's CMOS, for that matter. Seems the quality of these drives is not consistent.
Overall Review: About all I think I learned from this is that manufacturers are having trouble making drives larger than 1TB that are reliable (read the reviews on pretty much any manufacturer's large HDs and see if you agree). I had planned to use this drive as storage and was lucky that it failed BEFORE I loaded data on it. A couple smaller drives may be a better bet... At the same time, just because it seems all makers are having problems building reliable hard drives doesn't excuse Western Digital from continuing to send these out to the consumer. We deserve better. I have owned nothing but Western Digital but I will be looking at other manufacturers from this point forward.
Solid Operating System
Pros: Clean, solid operation. No install or driver issues. Fast boot.
Cons: Lacks easy access to shut down (solved by adding a shortcut to Shutdown to the desktop and Metro). Could have used a "Quick Start" guide to get started explaining the new features (was able to find the answers I needed on web though)
Overall Review: I use my system to do Office work and to edit photos and videos. Win8 works fine with SSD and Intel based 4HDD array. I've bought 2 copies of this upgrade and installed them over WinXP and Win7 so that I could be on the same operating system as my 83yo father and be able to assist him with his computer needs over the phone. I'd say it was really worth it to upgrade over WinXP and the system does have some nice perks over Win7 but not a huge difference. And I don't really see a downside when I compare 8 to the other versions. I've been a user of Win 7 since it first arrived and I am not sure what the complaining is all about with Win8. What did people expect, Win7 with updated graphics? There is a learning curve involved but not all that much more than the XP to Win7 one I went through, if memory serves me correctly. Don't like Metro, click the Desktop tile and there you are, Win7. The more I use it and learn what it is capable of, the more I like Win8. My 83yr parent likes it too... go figure.
Does What It Is Supposed To
Pros: Allows me to hookup a SATA hard drive to my PC externally Fits into my slimline case Cheap
Cons: Does not have a positive feel when you plug a cable into it. No click or lock. Not sure how firm the connection is with the cable when plugged it.
Overall Review: Ok, could be better
Got a Bad One
Pros: Cheap
Cons: Does not work with HP printer
Overall Review: Lots of printing and scanning errors too numerous to list. Printer is recognized by Win7 and worked ok from time to time but, after a lot of troubleshoot on the printer, I switched out the cable and no more issues. Disappointing really
Works As Advertised
Pros: Easy setup - took just minutes Works as it is supposed to Nice design
Cons: None
Overall Review: Wife's work laptop is 55' from the router (Linksys EA3500) and the signal passes through 3 walls (with metal framing) on the way there. We were getting 2 bars of signal strength and a solid connection but didn't want to chance drops in business connections. Added this unit between the router and the laptop, at a point about 40' from the router and we now get 4 bars of signal strength at the laptop + wireless access anywhere in the house, garage and out to the mailbox. Good stuff.
