Booted first time out.

ASRock X399 Taichi sTR4 AMD X399 ATX AMD Motherboard
ASRock X399 Taichi sTR4 AMD X399 ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: I only build myself a computer every five or six years or so. That's not often enough to become an expert at it, I just have to read the manual carefully and fumble my way through. Documentation was good, installation and setup was smooth, and a first for me, it booted up without a hiccup the first time I powered it up! (Typically I miss some minor detail and have to go back and find where I went wrong. Not this time!) It's been up for a few weeks and it's been smooth and problem free. I'm happy!

Cons: Hum. I'm trying, and I can't actually think of any. Maybe there will be some, but I haven't hit any snags yet.

Overall Review: Yeah, not that I would claim to be an expert, but I would recommend this MB to someone else if they wanted to know my experience with it.

Close, but not what I ordered

HGST He6 HUS726060ALA640 (0F18335) 6TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Hard Drive Bare Drive
HGST He6 HUS726060ALA640 (0F18335) 6TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: It's a 6tb hard drive.

Cons: Well... I ordered an HGST He6 HUS726060ALA640 (0F18335) 6TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Enterprise Hard Drive Bare Drive... The He6 in the name means it's helium filled for longevity and cooler operating temps. I paid $179.99 ($198-something with tax). It was ordered through New Egg seller, "Electro Bee". What I got was an Hewlett Packard Enterprise 6TB Hard Drive. So. Not HGST. No helium. But it IS a 6tb drive, appears to be new and functional... packing slip says it's from Oceansidestore Eb*y, and it has an item price of $129.95. It was *very* slow to ship-- all my items were ordered on April 4, delivered on April 10. Except for this. Ordered at the same time, delivered on April 17. There was no tracking info provided, just the word "SHIPPED". Seriously, in this millennium, who still does that? I have the distinct feeling that I've been lightly scammed, but like I say, it IS a 6tb drive, Hewlett Packard Enterprise model and it's likely to be more trouble than it's worth to wrangle around with the seller to get them to exchange for what I actually paid for, so I'm just going to keep it and remember the seller's name so I know never to do business with them again. "Electro Bee". Giving two stars because at least they didn't send me a brick or some old angle iron or something. It IS a 6tb drive at least.

Overall Review: I didn't get what I ordered, so there's no way I *could* recommend it to anyone else. I certainly don't recommend the seller.

Pretty bad

ICY DOCK 4 Bay USB 3.0/ eSATA External HDD Enclosure with 120mm Cooling Fan - Black Vortex MB174U3S-4SB

Pros: None

Cons: Enthusiastically corrupted drives multiple times.

Overall Review: Okay, I ordered this over a year ago...in 2015 in fact, so maybe the model has been improved some. I didn't have the budget to buy drives for it, so it just sat until this year. When I got my tax refund, I got four HGST 4tb drives, same model, brand, etc. Because I've been desperately needing to back up my huge photo and video archives. I've done the full format on every drive (takes the better part of a day), rather than the 'quick format'. And the first two drives seem to be doing okay (SO FAR), but my PC struggles to find and identify the third and fourth drive, and as soon as I start loading files to be backed up onto the third drive, in short order it starts telling me there's an error and my file system is corrupted and everything needs to be formatted again. I have a handful of external drive 'docks' and when I put these drives in one of them (if they haven't been corrupted yet, anyway) they work fine. But put them back in the Vortex and I might as well flush my data down the toilet. This thing is horrible. And because I let it sit for so long, I don't imagine I can expect warranty or exchange, so I'm just going to have to recycle it. I'm buying a Mediasonic probox instead.

What a mistake

ORICO 6828US3-C Aluminum & Plastic SATA to USB 3.0 Hard Drive Docking Station with Stand Alone Clone Function for 2.5" & 3.5" HDD/SSD, Maximum 8TB - Silver
ORICO 6828US3-C Aluminum & Plastic SATA to USB 3.0 Hard Drive Docking Station with Stand Alone Clone Function for 2.5" & 3.5" HDD/SSD, Maximum 8TB - Silver

Pros: Shiny. But really, none.

Cons: I'd been using two single drive NexStar bays to dock my external drives in. They could be a little temperamental at times, randomly dropping the connection with the PC and having to be re-started, but they did no harm to the drives themselves. But I thought it would be convenient to reduce the space and cabling by getting a two-in-one bay and NewEgg had this one on sale. So I got it and It seemed to work okay at first, but then within one days time my PC started having trouble recognizing the drives and then it started telling me I needed to format them in order to use them. This would be my hard drive with all my MP3's on it and another with irreplaceable video and photography work. Format them. Right... Turns out that the bay had almost immediately corrupted and/or damaged the file system on *both* drives. One was reporting as corrupted and the other was identifiying itself as a RAW unformatted drive. ??? Thank goodness for Zero Assumption Recovery-- I had a physical back up of my MP3 drive and a cloud back-up of the other so I'm not permanently harmed, but IL sure am aggravated and inconvenienced. And this bay went straight from my PC to the trash can. Orico is a brand I will emphatically avoid in the future. If it just didn't work on power up, I would give it another chance, but this bay actively corrupted and damaged good, functional drives in no time flat.

Overall Review: I would not recommend this product to anyone and I would not take a chance on this brand ever again. Stay away!

Class 10?

PNY Professional Series 16GB Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) Flash Card Model P-SDH16G10-GE
PNY Professional Series 16GB Secure Digital High-Capacity (SDHC) Flash Card Model P-SDH16G10-GE

Pros: Well it works in one camera just fine-- my Nikon D90. So no real complaints there.

Cons: Unfortunately, it's *not* the camera I ordered it for. I wanted to be able to use it in my Canon HF100 HD camcorder, which is why I got the more expensive 'class 10' card. But when I put it into the Canon, the camera says, 'Whatchoo talkin' bout, Willis? I can't put a movie file on *this* card! 'Least not at 17 MBPS. Maybe...12MBPS." This strikes me as most curious as I have a Kingston class 6, a Transcend class 6, and a Sandisk 'Ultra' class 4 that -all- seem to be able to swallow a 17 MBPS HD video stream without hiccuping or misbehaving. Guess it goes to show that the brand really matters more than the rated speed class. I can use it in the D90 so it frees up my other cards for the camcorder, so it's OK. But PNY is a lot farther down on my brand preference list now.

Overall Review: I thought the speed class ratings were supposed to mean something? Why does a class 10 fail where a class 4 doesn't?

Not good.

I wouldn't recommend this seller to others. I ordered an HGST helium filled 6tb hard drive for $179 (199 with tax). All the other items that came from NewEgg directly, arrived in six days. This item took a full week longer to show up at my door. When it did, it was not what I ordered. Granted, it *was* a 6tb drive, so that gets them to the second 'egg'... But it was a Hewlett Packard Enterprise Drive, with a packing slip showing a receipt for $129. No HGST, no helium, the only resemblance being that it was, at least, a 6tb drive. The drive appears to be in new and functional order. I think I've been scammed, but not horrendously; just a little bait and switch, maybe a bigger profit margin for them. My time and energy is too valuable to me to wrangle with the seller over why they thought it was okay to send me something other than what I ordered and paid for. It is, as previously mentioned, a 6tb drive in good condition so I'm just going to keep it, use it and avoid ever doing business with these folks again.
