Follow up to yesterday's review
Pros: Easy to use and responsive technical support.
Cons: None at this time.
Overall Review: This is a follow up posting to my previous review to clarify the situation. This morning I received a response to my support ticket with OCZ (very responsive). They pointed out that although the Revo Drive 3 X2 does support SMART monitoring, there is no temperature sensor on the card. Therefore the temperature reading being reported had nothing to do with the temperature of the card. The false reading and subsequent notification of critical temperature for the device was a result of the HD Tune Pro utility I was using. Apparently it behaves differently for this card than devices that don't support SMART. The great news is that there is nothing wrong with the card, and I have used it throughout the day today without error. I am very satisfied at this point with the product and the technical support I received. The previous review should be removed or ignored.
How to resolve problems with this board!!
Pros: LGA2011, Quad channel memory, PCIe 3.0, lots of slots
Cons: Lock ups, driver crashes, video artifacts, video freezes, memory errors, mouse freezes...
Overall Review: Here is how to fix all of the problem: Go into the Bios and disable the Normal OC profile under the Extreme Tweaker tab. Mine was enabled by default for some reason. I wasted two full weeks trying to diagnose all of the problems this created. Mine has been running stable now for 7 months with the same parts I started with. No heat problems!
Pros: Fast and now nearly one third the price I paid!
Cons: none
Overall Review: I did the review from one year ago that mentioned heat problems. I just want to say one more time that there are NO heat problems. The problem was with the HD Tune utility I was using. Since there is no temperature sensor on the card the monitoring software defaulted to a value that just so happens to be a -1 (128 binary for a byte). Let me say this one more time... THERE IS NO HEAT PROBLEM AND NO TEMPERATURE SENSOR to report even if there was. My drive has worked well since I purchased it. I have never had a failure or glitch or my house burn down due to excessive heat. In fact it runs rather cool in my tiny Shuttle case. I can't comment on the other person's review other than if it fails with the same problem after three replacements, the odds are that the problem is with his system not the part. I hope this helps.
Quality Switch with Rich Feature Set
Pros: Small, fanless, 8-ports, LACP, VLAN, DNS, port mirroring, POE on port 1 for switch power, IGMP, 16Gbit switch fabric, nice web interface. This switch has most of the features of a larger managed switch for a reasonable price.
Cons: Web interface hangs on each save request after save has been completed. Doesn't have all gateway routing features such as DHCP server, MAC cloning/spoofing. Web interface is a little confusing at first in understanding what the save link versus apply button does.
Good Big Case
Pros: Extended size for large motherboards Lots of space Large top fan Air filters for top fan, bottom power supply, and bottom radiator Eight side mountable drive bays Drive fans included Lots of drive bays Fan controller Multiple radiator mounting positions Good cable management Bottom mounted power supply (up or down) Strong carry handle(s) Front SSD dock Front USB 3.0 ports Front eSata port Front head phone and microphone ports Big power button Tool compartment
Cons: Heavy steel No side window option No hot swap back plane for storage No wheels
Overall Review: This is a great case for large applications. I used mine for a development server with 16TB storage array. Supports the ASUS Rampage IV Extreme motherboard well. The only complaint with this case for that board is that the cable holes are half covered by the motherboard due to its extended depth. However there is still adequate room for all cables. The case is large and makes it easy for getting in and about. Intel water cooler fits nicely inside. Added two additional side fans for cooling cards. This works well, best if you use PWM fans and connect to motherboard PWM fan controller. Case is quiet. When loaded with 8 drives, controller card, video card, multiport network card, PCIe NAND Flash Card, weight becomes excessive. However the handles don't flinch. The rubber coating on the front and top is thin and is essentially rubberized paint. Tool case is plastic. Had no problem with parts breaking as reported by others. Thumb screws initially difficult due to paint.
Works good not great
Pros: Simple installation - just plug in any outlet in your house. Works with other brands and speeds of Powerline AV adapters. Does not block top outlet when plugged into bottom outlet of wall plate. Three LEDs including power line quality. Runs cool. Was on sale.
Cons: Speed is not as advertised. A little large and no plug pass through, but their next model will resolve this. Only one port per adapter.
Overall Review: Somewhat disappointing. I am using them in combination with three Cisco/Linksys PLE300s without problem. Although the others are only 200MBit devices, all work together. Tested separately and same performance. The line quality indicator changes color from green to yellow to red as the quality decreases. Runs yellow typically. Getting 200Mbit (green) on one-way transfers when connected in same outlet, 128Mbit (green) between different rooms on same floor and circuit, 40Mbit (yellow) in different rooms on same floor, and 25Mbit (red) two floors apart. That isn't 250Mbit (500Mbit full duplex) even when one inch apart. Distance matters and I suspect they need more power for the signal. I get consistent but less throughput with each of the Cisco PLE300s in different locations, so it is a small improvement. I get about 8-9MB (HDX 1080) from my bluray to Internet vudu server using their test, but this is pitiful compared to wired gigabit and there advertised speeds.
