Great HTPC
Pros: Silent, draws less than 40 watts at idle and less than 45 watts playing a bluray (as measured using watt meter).
Cons: Only 2 SATA II connectors. Only one on board USB header.
Overall Review: Running Widows 7 with 4 GB Kingston KVR800D3S8S6 memory. Windows assessment gives the following ratings: Processor 3.5 Memory 4.9 Graphics 4.7 Gaming Graphics 5.6 After loading the USB 3.0 drivers, Windows update offers an optional ACS-6xxxx update. Do not install it. If you already have, remove the USB drivers and the ACS-6xxxx driver using device manager. Then reinstall the USB drivers and tell windows to hide the optional update. My PCI x1 slot works fine. I have not tested the HDMI connection yet.
Shame on NVIDIA
Pros: None that out way the cons
Cons: This board fails to POST about one out of four times I recycle power (POST code 02). It resets bios settings each time POST fails. In four months it has burnt out one 100 dollar memory stick and two 280 dollar video cards. I'm currently waiting for EVGA to upgrade me to a 780i board.
Overall Review: Q6600 CPU. Tried three different memory types (4GB Corsair, 2GB Patriot, and 8 GB Kingston). 850W Enermax PSU. Maybe some people are lucky, but this is an expensive piece of trash from my experience. I don't blame EVGA or newegg.
Do the math
Pros: Don't know
Cons: This thing uses one PCIe gen 2 lane. Maximum transfer rate for one lane is 500 MB/s. So the 600 MB/s per port is hog wash.
Pretty Nice
Pros: Looks very professional. Seems well made.
Cons: The little 40mm fan is pretty noisy.
Overall Review: I removed the fan. At first it looked like it would be easy, but since the fan leads were wrapped around the PCB support post, I had to dismantle the entire thing. Required removing and replacing a total of 20 screws.
Failed within days
Pros: Fast & cheap. RMA with WD was relatively painless
Cons: Bought two, one died.
Overall Review: Had these on the shelf for about month. When I finally hooked them up, one failed quickly.
Failed after a few months
Pros: Lot's of space. Quiet when working properly. Pretty fast.
Cons: Runs pretty hot. Lost the master boot recored after a few months. Started making buzzing sounds when booting, then just failed to boot my computer.
Overall Review: A week ago I would have rated this drive 5 eggs. In fact I just bought a second one two weeks ago. The failed drive still works as a data disk, but the MBR is shot. It cost a lot more when I bought the first one. I thought I was paying more for reliability. I guess not.
