Phanteks Enthoo Pro TG SE PH-ES614PTG_SWT Integrated RGB lighting Tempered Glass Side Panel with 2x Halos RGB Fan Frames Special Edition ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Black/White interior

Pros: It is everything I wanted in a case.

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: I wish had chosen the Phanteks Ethoo Pro Case for my build last year (Ryzen 3900x). But this year I had a strange urge to build a mostly era correct Windows XP machine, but not just any old Windows XP machine; I wanted to build a High End (for the time period) Ultimate XP Retro Gaming Computer with as much retro stuff as I could find. At first, I tried to find a computer case from the mid-2000s, but they were more expensive than buying a new case. I chose the Phanteks Ethoo Pro Case partly because of the three 5.25” bays two of which I installed Asus optical drives since most of my old games are on CD. The 3rd bay I installed a 3.5” floppy drive. Why would I need a 3.5” floppy drive? Well, normally I would not, but occasionally I write CNC programs for mid-2000 era CNCs (especially Haas machines) and most require a floppy to upload programs. So, it may be a handy thing to have. On to the specs of my strange PC. Most of the parts were purchased used except for the PC box, fans, PSU, optical drives and the RGB strips. Windows XP Pro 32 bit. EVGA 122-2k-nf68-b1 nForce 680i Motherboard. Two XFX 8800 GTX 768MB graphics cards in SLI configuration. 4 core Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 processor running at 3GHz. Four 1 GB sticks of Corsair XMS2-6400 Ram. Thermaltake 750-watt 80 plus gold semi-modular power supply. Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card. Samsung 860 EVO 1TB SSD. I know Windows XP does not support the TRIM function, but it still works great. My other XP machine has had an SSD for a few years without any issues. And… 2 1TB hard drives. But… the question is: Will it run Crysis? Yes… it does with all the settings on high.

Worked great until it did not.

GIGABYTE X570 AORUS MASTER (rev. 1.2) AMD Ryzen 3000 PCIe 4.0 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.2 AMD X570 ATX Motherboard
GIGABYTE X570 AORUS MASTER (rev. 1.2) AMD Ryzen 3000 PCIe 4.0 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.2 AMD X570 ATX Motherboard

Pros: Pros: Beautiful motherboard and it handled my Ryzen 3900x simply fine. The Wi-Fi worked great as did the audio except for the time a bios update killed the audio and I had to re-install windows.

Cons: The motherboard worked great for over a year until one day I shut it down for a few hours and when I came back, it would not turn on. No LEDs, no debug lights, nothing. It would not even trip the power supply on. I thought that it must be the PSU, so I took another power supply out of a working PC and… nada… nothing… still dead. Then I took the board out and tried it again and it still would not post. To verify that my power supply was good, I hooked it up to another board and it posted. What gets me is the motherboard will not even turn the PSU on when I try to start it. Next thing I did was to fill out the online warranty claim and I have heard nothing from them. I am not in the mood to shell out another 250 bux for a new motherboard, but neither am in the mood to wait forever until Gigabyte does something.

Overall Review: I thought it was a great board at first, but now it is a major disappointment. I have been working on computers since I was young. I may not be young anymore, but I still like to build them.

SSD UNRELIABLE

PNY CS900 240GB 2.5" SATA III INTERNAL Solid State Drive (SSD) - SSD7CS900-240-RB

Pros: It made my daughter's old laptop boot very fast.

Cons: When I first installed it and was testing it, it would occasionally shut down the computer. It was infrequent so I let my daughter take it home, but now it will only stay on a few minutes at a time. I am going to have to buy another SSD for it and it will NOT be a PNY!

Overall Review: I cannot recommend this product to anyone;.
