No problems whatsoever

APC SUA3000RM2U 3000 VA 2700 Watts 6 NEMA 5-15R + 2 NEMA 5-20R Outlets Smart-UPS

Pros: Only needs 2U of space, sine wave output, has maintenance bypass to replace batteries without powering down your servers. External emergency power off (EPO) is a nice touch at this price point.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: Keep in mind that will need a 30amp twist-lock L5-30P receptacle to power this unit.

Excellent upgrade!

Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 2.5 GHz 6MB L2 Cache Socket P 35W Dual-Core BX80576T9300 Processor

Pros: I recently purchased three of these CPUs for upgrade testing and evaluation in three of our company Dell Vostro 1500s. The Vostros came stock with either the T5470 (1.6GHz C2D) or the T5250 (1.5GHz C2D). So far none of the three laptops have had any problems, and the added performance is quite dramatic. No heat issues with our Vostros.

Cons: Still fairly pricey.

Overall Review: The upgrade process was a snap with our Dell laptops, thanks to Dell's excellent service manual.

Great upgrade for Dell Vostro Laptop

Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 2.5 GHz 6MB L2 Cache Socket P 35W Dual-Core BX80576T9300 Processor

Pros: Fantastic upgrade for our office Dell Vostro 1500 laptops-they came standard with the 1.6GHz T5470. In terms of performance this T9300 Penryn is like getting a whole new laptop.

Cons: None so far.

Overall Review: As mentioned elsewhere, this upgrade isn't for the faint of heart. Dell has an excellent service manual on their support site that will walk you through CPU replacement step-by-step. When I'm tearing down a laptop I like to place the screws on a piece of notebook paper with notes indicating where they go (display, chassis etc). It's a lot easier than trying to reassemble from memory.

Unbeatable for the money

TYAN B2865G20S4H Industry 19" rack-mountable 1U chassis Barebone Server 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra DDR333/400
TYAN B2865G20S4H Industry 19" rack-mountable 1U chassis Barebone Server 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra DDR333/400

Pros: This most recent purchase will be our fifth and sixth 1U Tyan barebones kit, and so far we are completely satisfied with them. They are well laid out, put together well, and made from quality components. There are a lot of nice touches in a Tyan barebones kit: PCI and PCI-E riser cards, full documentation including an engineering manual, and a *very* high quality all copper CPU heatsink. There is even a mainboard layout decal on the inside of the top cover. Can handle ECC or non-ECC RAM. Dual core capable.

Cons: Having the rails included with the kit is extremely convenient, but they are a bit on the flimsy side. Be careful when installing the screws-they are very soft and the heads will shear easily. Also, the 2865 mainboard lacks a PCI-X slot, which eliminates a lot of popular add-on RAID cards. Lots of PCI-E slots though.

Overall Review: Don't forget to check your BIOS version. At the time of this review, the newest BIOS for the 2865 mainboard is v3.04. You will need a Win98 (or equivalent) boot disk. Rather than go through the aggravation of installing a slimline floppy drive for a one-time BIOS flash, I simply boot to a USB floppy drive. It's quick, painless, and straightforward.

Rock solid performer (as usual)

TYAN S3850G2NR ATX Server Motherboard 939 ServerWorks HT1000

Pros: This most recent purchase is our 13th Tyan server mainboard in 24 months. Like it's larger dual and quad socket brothers, this one is rock-solid and absolutely reliable. The feature-set is excellent for the price, and it's nice to have a choice between ECC or regular RAM. We intend to build a small staging server with this board, and it will fulfill it's purpose perfectly. The onboard RAID5 and

Cons: None whatsoever.

Overall Review: This is not a gaming or enthusiast motherboard, it's intended for servers. It supports AMD's (legacy) socket 939...not socket 940, not socket AM2, but socket 939. It supports (legacy) DDR or ECC DDR RAM...not DDR2.

Absolutely Phenomenal

Pros: This switch was purchased to prioritize VoIP and data traffic between a VoIP gateway and internal LAN in one of our branch offices. We needed solid QoS, but didn't want to spend a fortune. Moving from an entry-level managed switch to this one has been a Godsend. Our VoIP dropout issues during periods of high network utilization are gone-even when our data pipe is fully saturated. Configuration and installation are a snap-thanks to the GUI device manager. The GUI features preconfigured templates for smartport configuration, making it simple for non-techies to get the switch up and running in an optimal configuration.

Cons: None whatsoever

Overall Review: If you are having issues with VoIP dropout or other traffic prioritization issues in your business network this little Cisco is a cost-effective solution that will settle the problem once and for all. You don't need to be a techie to get it figured out either. It lives up to the reputation of it's more expensive siblings-without busting your IT budget.
